  “We celebrated our wedding at York Minster Refectory & had the most special day. The kitchen team went the extra mile to create the best buffet we’ve ever eaten - every dish had so much flavour! A big shoutout to Jade who made sure everything run so smoothly & coped with the quirks of our unique wedding! We’ll be back as regular diners very soon, thank you all so much!”

  “Beautiful building and a lovely spot to sit outside for a drink in the sunshine. However our two drinks took ages to come, we had to enquire after them in the end when we noticed other tables that arrived after us were getting their drinks before us. The 4 mini puddings for £8 were a serious let down. This included a piece of fudge, a jelly cube (can’t even say what flavour it was it was soo bland) a small macaron and a Profiterole. Our two drinks came to £9 (cappuccino and a tea). As we were rushing to head for the train we paid without checking the receipt. They have automatically included a 12.5% service charge to our bill. We were a table of two who had two drinks (very slow to arrive at our table) and a rubbish desert. They should be telling customers this has been added prior to taking payment for such a small party. I wouldn’t have paid it had I realised and not been rushing. Very disappointing visit. Best thing going for it is the location based on my visit today.”

  “Wow. What a place. Cam here for Birthday celebrations with their 7 course taster menu and matched wine. Highly recommend it. Staff were wonderful, friendly, warm, informative, nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious and exciting and we enjoyed the wine pairings.”

  “We hired the private dining room for an intimate wedding breakfast with family. Only being a short walk from York Register office, the Minster Refectory was ideally located. We were lucky to have lovely weather on our special day, so were able to enjoy our welcome drinks and canapes with guests on the patio area. The private dining room was stunning, with views overlooking York Minster. Communication with the events co-ordinator was brilliant in the run up to our special day. Both the and food and service on the day were wonderful too. Thank you again to all the team.”

  “Really excellent all round and especially the food. We had the green pea soup- perfect blend of flavour and balanced very well - served with a little theatrical flair, ploughman’s lunch by far the best I’ve had in years- courgette mint pea and feta also perfect. Cooked just right/ sensitively seasoned. Balance between mint and feta just right. Amazing surroundings. Great staff. fab Photo of bowl after I practically licked it clean”

  “Great spot with amazing food and attentive service. A bit of a wait for the food though. The pairing is spot on and they have a full menu with GF options. Lamb shoulder super tender and full of flavour. The salad is spectacular with the crispy ham and the crispy Parmesan. The sourdough bread sprinkled with honey is divine. Roasted pumpkin with kale is scrumptious too. Kids menu has plenty of choices and very tasty.”

  “Excellent Sunday lunch. All elements were well cooked with good quality ingredients. Yorkshire puddings were large, beef was tasty, and cauliflower cheese was included in the ‘seasonal vegetables’. Extra gravy provided on request. My nut allergy limited my pudding choices but I was able to choose the ‘Terry’s Chocolate Orange Sundae’ from the à la carte menu and it was delicious. Family members enjoyed the bread and butter pudding. Great setting and architecture, although more subtle lighting would have been nice, or maybe a table away from the entrance. Overall, a very good meal, and would return. Lovely staff.”

  “Absolute gem of a place in York. Food is top notch and the service is really attentive without being over powering. Good wine and desert wine selection. Very generous main portions and quality is outstanding. Highly recommend, beautiful old building, certain tables have a view over the minster and pleasant atmosphere.”

  “Wonderful experience with delightful service and great cooking. Spoiled slightly by the surcharge for non dairy milk. If you offer a vegan menu, don't make us pay extra for non dairy milk. It's a discriminatory tax. You don't have a cow out the back giving you free milk, so don't claim it costs you extra for soya.”

  “York Minster Refectory is located in the heart of the City at Deansgate, providing a good view of York Minster. The building has an old world charm, having spent much of its history serving as a school until 2023, when it was converted into a brasserie style restaurant. We were celebrating a family birthday on a Monday lunchtime in February, and really enjoyed the experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and we had our own dining area sitting in a raised gallery, which gave a clear view of the Minster. The restaurant offers seasonal menus with a strong emphasis on local Yorkshire food. Most of us opted for the lunchtime ‘Lite Bites’ which were extremely hearty and delicious. I really enjoyed my rich three cheese fondue with cheese straws and garlic roast new potatoes, while others loved their Refectory Seafood Board, with smoked organic salmon, crab, oyster, prawns & mussels & clams. The children tucked into their own choices from the special little Pilgrim’s menu.”
