About St Vincent Arms
St Vincent Arms is a gastropub on Main St in York, where the kitchen puts a chicken jalfrezi curry and a homemade steak pie on the same menu, so one table can order either a curry or a pie. The wider menu runs to duck, seabream and steaks, and fish and chips is also served. Sunday lunch is on offer, and small side tables are put out in the bar for side dishes. On the bar, cask ales including Taylor's Landlord sit beside Guinness. Dogs are allowed in the bar but not in the main lounge.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the curry, with the chicken jalfrezi called one of the most delicious a reviewer has had, and another heartily recommending the curry. Close behind is the homemade steak pie, praised for excellent pastry and described as taken to another level. Duck, seabream, smoked haddock, pork loin with fresh homemade apple sauce, a chicken, pork and apricot terrine, and fish and chips with a very large fish also earn mentions. Reviewers describe a cosy, traditional country pub with a good cask ale selection, including Kirkstall Brewery Three Swords, and friendly, polite staff. The recurring caveat is cost: a couple of reviewers call it dearer than typical country pubs, and one found the menu more fine dining than pub grub, though the portions were massive. One reviewer suggests bringing a cash tip, since it cannot be added to the bill. Another, whose friends brought a dog, booked in the bar, where staff put out small side tables for the Sunday lunch side dishes.

“A warm welcome on arrival and were shown to our table. We love the food here, it's beautifully homemade, tasty and a great choice on the menu. The young lads waiting on are just so polite and knew about the wine and food choices available.😁 The homemade steak pie was delightful and the pastry was excellent, my friends had duck, seabream and Jalfreizi curry which were so tasty. We all had empty plates and unfortunately no room for dessert!! If you go tho I'd recommend taking a cash tip as it cannot be added onto the bill, this was unfortunate as we really wanted to leave the staff a tip, however we know for next time! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”

“My wife and I called in for lunch yesterday and were very impressed. A great cask ale selection - I joked that I could've had a pint of each of the 5 on offer! I settled for the Kirkstall Brewery Three Swords which was excellent. I've always loved curry and having had hundreds over the years, I can say that the Chicken Jalfrezi, flavour wise, was one of the most delicious I've had! My wife really enjoyed her smoked haddock dish too. Top all that off with great service and I can say that we'll definitely be back again.”

“Had a late lunch at St Vincents', and very much enjoyed it. Friendly welcome, Excellent service, and quality food. It's a fairly typical country pub so a good mix of locals and visitors. Wide beer selection. Heartily recommend the curry! Dog friendly and plenty of parking on site.”

“Absolutely wonderful visit to celebrate a birthday. Incredibly delicious, high-quality, homemade food served in a cosy, traditional, country pub. Some of the best we've tasted! Staff were incredibly friendly, professional and attentive - they made us feel so welcome, nothing was too much for them! Holly looked after us incredibly well - a real asset! The exceptionally talented chef even made a fresh batch of homemade apple sauce to complement the tasty pork loin! The chicken, pork and apricot terrine and homemade piccalilli was a delight. The steaks cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend.”
