Customer Review Summary

Steak leads the praise, with ribeye and sirloin specials and oversized onion rings singled out, alongside starters of prawn cocktail and sautéed chestnut mushrooms in garlic sauce. Shepherd's pie and a vegetarian lasagna also get warm mentions, and several describe the food as delicious and the staff as friendly, including one who found the kitchen helpful with a friend's allergies. Complaints are more mixed. Portions are called small by a few, including the gammon and dessert, and one reviewer found the gammon watery. A one-star review describes a dry, burnt-bacon Caesar salad, instant mash and chips that tasted of old oil, with staff coming across as defensive. Another describes a rude waitress after a walk-in was asked whether they had booked. One hotel guest recounts being moved between tables, and an order that ran out after an hour's wait. Noise when full of large parties is also noted. One reviewer found the peppercorn sauce under-seasoned on an otherwise fine ribeye, and one mentions used flypapers on the rafters.

“Called told OK just drop in! Arrived - Have you YOU booked? Then starts an unwelcome/unwanted stay....to the huffs asking for 2mins more to decide... unsure if because we had a child with us or not. But the waitress ..... well rude/unwelcoming/abrupt...... I believe she only smiled when we left.. Food well presented on plate... and reasonable quality and quantity... Food was served by another waitress at least there is some smiles in the place. One of our party still eating and being ask you all finished? NO, but leaving very soon... Goodbye So overall don't bother”

“The pub is in an idilic setting and although I didn’t go outside it looked lovely. Inside had a comfy seating area and a dining area that wasn’t over crowded with tables and clutter - a perfect feel. Staff were attentive and friendly from start to finish and the choices on the menu were spot on. Our food was absolutely delicious: shepherds pie and a vegetarian lasagna. You’re not over faced but it’s just filling enough. I loved our evening here and would happily recommend it.”

“Absolutely amazing first time dinning here. Fast service, great food! Friend had allergies and was very helpful with that too. Enjoyed by all in our party of 3. Beautiful location. Clean. Would definitely try again. Thank you.”

“Really disappointing experience overall. We had what was genuinely one of the worst Caesar salads we’ve ever had – the chicken was dry, the bacon was burnt, and the whole dish had a strange, unpleasant taste. I’ll upload a photo for context, but at £15.95 it was especially unacceptable. The mash potato was clearly instant, which is frustrating when we were told everything is made fresh. Instant mash isn’t “fresh” in my opinion. The chips also tasted like they’d been cooked in old oil, which gave them an off flavour. What made it worse was the response from staff. There wasn’t much of an apology, and they came across quite defensive rather than taking the feedback on board, which didn’t help the situation. Overall, very poor quality food and not great service either. Definitely not worth the price and wouldn’t return.”

“I didn’t enjoy my gammon, a lot of water came out from my gammon on the plate, don’t know why, the portion is small but all right. But the dessert is delicious, a little bit small be honest.”
