About The Deramore Arms

The Deramore Arms is a pub and restaurant in York, serving British and Indian menus alongside beers from local indie microbreweries. The car park doubles as a free overnight stop for motorhomes and campervans through Britstops, on the condition that guests buy food or drink inside. Fish and chips comes with homemade tartare sauce, and the wider menu runs to 13 dishes. Inside, an open fire sits in the main room, and a side room holds a wood stove, with board games available for guests to play. Dogs are welcome throughout. Outdoor seating extends the space for those eating outside, and the step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs. A quiz night runs regularly, and the pub opens daily. Reservations are recommended. A regular bus stop is a short walk away.

Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips draws the most praise, with reviewers repeatedly calling it among the best they've had, tender and delicious with homemade tartare sauce and quick service. Close behind, the chicken burger with homemade chips gets singled out as some of the tastiest food a reviewer has had, and the pub's Indian food night also earns mention as a popular addition alongside the regular British menu. Reviewers consistently describe the atmosphere as welcoming, citing the open fire, board games, and a friendly, family-feeling welcome, with several motorhome travellers noting free overnight parking in the car park and staff who accommodated late kitchen requests. One reviewer, however, found a meat dish, beef and pork, tough and overcooked despite fresh, well-cooked vegetables, calling the meal otherwise unremarkable. The pub closes reviewers' accounts on repeated stories of hosts going out of their way, from cooking after hours to sharing a fireside corner with travelling guests.

I'v know Heslington most of my life its not particularly changed. One thing I can say is that the owners if the Deramore arms has certainly done a good job with the atmosphere, lovely food and beverages especially beers. If you want to relax and chill with good company this is the place to hibernate in front of the open fire. Finally have to mention Dan and Varsha who are welcomeing hosts. If you are looking for have peaceful time for yourself then this would be the place. Highly recommend for family celebration. Dogs always welcome.

Absolutely lovely local pub with the best fish and chips I've ever had - compliments to the chef! The fish was tender and delicious and the chips were fantastic! The food was served very quickly after ordering, with homemade tartare sauce as well. It looked so good I forgot to take a photo before I started eating. I came here with my granny and we both really enjoyed it. The gentleman at the bar was very helpful and polite. We will be visiting again!
