Customer Review Summary
The seafood pancake is the dish reviewers raise most, called a delicious starter and, for one coeliac diner, made gluten free and coeliac safe, along with gluten free bread, sticky toffee pudding and a brownie. Close behind are the brisket bun, the black pudding starter, the hanger steak and a Sunday roast of beef, pork and lamb served hot. Several praise the friendly staff and the colourful, quirky decor of mirrors, old photos and twinkly lights, with one noting the pink and coral walls. Complaints are fewer but specific. One winter lunch was freezing after the boiler broke, with guests eating in coats, two portable heaters doing little, and the manager saying guests were not being told in advance. One reviewer found the sea bass potatoes undercooked, and another who only came in for a drink paid for half a diet coke to use the toilets and felt like an outsider. One diner says bread arrived as a surprise before the meal, and a reviewer with coeliac disease was brought gluten free bread too.

“Extremely impressed with this place! I can see why it’s in the Living North! Absolutely incredible! They are exceptionally accommodating to people with coeliac disease! I’d heard about their famous seafood pancake, and automatically assumed it wouldn’t be gluten free, but oh no, they were able to make a gluten free coeliac safe one that was utterly delicious! They brought out gluten free bread for me to enjoy before the meal! The sticky toffee pudding was gluten free too! And they even put a gluten free brownie on the side of my cuppa… wow! Now that’s above and beyond! All the food was absolutely amazing - super flavoursome, fantastic quality and fresh! Yum! The staff were all very friendly and hospitable! I rate this place very highly, and I’ve been recommending it to people ever since going!”

“We had an amazing evening. To begin with, the whole place is full of quirky pieces and painted in a beautiful coral/ pink. The staff are lovely. Really well trained and friendly. We had plates of deliciousness from start to finish. A wonderful surprise when some bread arrived ; a rare occurrence these days and it was superb. Every starter was fab and a generous portion. The main courses were excellent too. Only one of us had room for a dessert and she declined to share it!!! Did we have a fantastic evening....you bet!!! We will definitely be back.”

“Really nice Sunday lunch in a lovely village pub. Between us we had the beef, pork and lamb and all were enjoyed. Food was served hot, well cooked and in decent time. The black pudding starter was standout! Plenty of parking.”

“Very disappointing visit today. Lovely seafood pancake and good service from our waitress, but it was freezing cold. The boiler had broken the day before. No one informed us in advance and no one apologised on arrival. We ate lunch in our coats and it was still uncomfortably cold (sleeting outside). Two portable heaters didn’t touch it. There weren’t even any blankets available. The manager’s response was to tell us that they weren’t informing guests and there was nothing else he could do. The situation was very badly managed. As a minimum, please can I request again that you inform your guests so that they can come prepared.”
