Quick info
About The Swatters Carr
The Swatters Carr is a Wetherspoon pub in Middlesbrough at 228 Linthorpe Rd, with brick walls and pillars in a stripped back design. Several real ales run on the bar, and drinks and food can be ordered through an app or face to face over the bar. Brunch is served, with the kitchen's own made sausages and a vegetarian version for those who skip meat. Quiz night runs on Wednesday at 8pm, so midweek visits can be planned around it. Security enforces a dress code at the door, so entry depends on what you wear. The toilets are downstairs.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the cheap prices and quick food, with a steak cooked medium rare as ordered singled out by one diner, and the pub's own made sausages and vegetarian version praised by another who comes for brunch. Several describe a friendly, busy atmosphere with a student crowd, and the staff come up repeatedly as friendly and helpful, including one who supplied a high chair for a baby. A few mention real ales and a pint of Czech beer, plus brick walls and pillars in the stripped back design, and one notes a Wednesday quiz night. Toilets on the ground floor are a plus for some. Complaints are fewer but specific. One reviewer reports a bathroom lock that was not working, poor cleaning, and a website showing "under maintenance" when they tried to report it. Another objects that a friend in a tracksuit was refused entry by security. One beer was on the turn, but it was swapped and taken off the bill without argument.

“Absolutely ridiculous that a wetherspoons has such an insane dress code rule. My friend wasn't let in because he was wearing a tracksuit. When me and the person I was with entered before, one security guard was looking him up and down and it felt as if she was finding a way not to let us in. It's a wetherspoons. What's the point in judging upon appearance as if it was a fancy restaurant?”

“This is a really down to earth good pub. Great atmosphere, busy but not absolutely crammed. The food is exactly what it states on the tin. Easy to order, either via an app which I don't do or face to face over the bar, old school. The prices are extremely good value and the food is always ready extremely quickly. Excellent value. The menu is very comprehensive catering for all needs of dietary requirements. Large or small portions, what ever takes your fancy.”

“I had a very disappointing experience. The bathroom lock was not working properly, which is a serious safety concern. On top of that, the cleaning service was extremely poor and not up to standard. When I tried to report the issue through the website, it was showing “under maintenance,” which made the situation even more frustrating. In the end, I had to call my friend to help fix the issue myself. Very unprofessional service and highly disappointing.”
