About The Southfield
The Southfield is a pub in a student area of Middlesbrough, at 18 Southfield Rd, open daily from breakfast until the early hours. Bottomless brunch runs in a set slot of about two hours, with food and drinks included. Live musicians or a singer perform during it, and servers keep drinks coming to the table. Tables can be booked. For sport, the TVs show football and other games with the sound turned down, and music plays at half time and between matches. The menu takes its cues from street food and includes double smash burgers, while the beer selection features some craft options. Quizzing and retro-gaming give the bar activities beyond the screens.

Customer Review Summary
Bottomless brunch is what most reviewers come for, and several describe it as great value, with plenty of variety in food and drinks and servers who kept glasses full without being asked. Live musicians and music add to the atmosphere. Diners call the food delicious with large portions, though one found the pancakes not worth the money. Close behind are the friendly staff and a beer selection that includes some craft options, with the landlord singled out as helpful. The complaints centre on pace and drinks. Two brunch groups say food came late, and one reviewer was still waiting for it near the end of a two hour session. One suggests small sharing bites and more cocktail choices, and another said the long island iced tea tasted like coke with syrup. A one-star review describes a lone bartender walking away and leaving two customers waiting at the bar. For football, one diner praised the double smash burgers and noted that staff turn the TV sound down at half time and between matches to play music.

“There was a bar staff (short with black hair) he was very rude. He was the only one on the bar, he looked at my friend and I, then he walked off the bar to talk to the other bar staff. We when we walked away from the bar after waiting for like 5 minutes, he finally came back to serve someone else. It made feel very uncomfortable and ruined the rest of my night. Please train you staff to start doing their job especially the new ones and not make customers feel uncomfortable.”

“Lovely food, friendly service! Worst long island iced tea though. Tasted like coke with syrup. Also, in my bartending days, I always made cocktails in front of the customer, so they see exactly what goes in it. We have ordered our drinks, the lady went away , came back 5 minutes later with them. Other than that, lovely place, lovely food, nice outside seating area.”

“We did bottomless brunch and Sean (I think was his name) was amazing. He went above and beyond to help us enjoy your time. He had some banter and was just a great laugh The food was good, pancakes aren't worth the money but the rest was lovely. Drinks were quick and tasty too. A very dangerous (in a good way) combination.”

“Spent a very pleasant afternoon watching football at The Southfield this weekend. The place is well set out for watching sports, and the ability to book a table is great. Service was great, the staff were really friendly, and the food we had (double smash burgers) were very nice. Beer and food was decently priced, I thought. A nice touch - at half time and between matches (we watched 2), the staff dial down the TV sound and play music. That worked really well.”

“Stiil waiting after 1hr 50mins on our 2hour bottomless brunch for our food. Three drinks but happy to serve a lot quicker if you pay extra at the bar. What more can I say. Singer was ok and normally the atmosphere is good in here. Just need more staff (the staff great) but poor management or if cynical… make your own judgement”

“A welcoming and informal bar in a student area, open from breakfast ?til the early hours. A great place to relax, meet new friends and join in activities such as quizzing and retro-gaming. It is also an ideal place to watch the big games on TV whilst eating and drinking from street food influenced menus”
