About The Boatman
The Boatman is a gastropub in Windsor at 10 Thames Side, built around a riverside deck on the Thames. The deck is split in two. One side is a self-serve bar where guests order at the counter, and the other is a dining side with full table service. The kitchen cooks fish and chips and a slow-cooked lamb dinner, and the drinks list carries a wide range of gins alongside Fever-Tree tonic waters. Dishes are served as written on the menu, with no substitutions or amendments.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return mostly for the riverside view and outdoor deck, with the slow-cooked lamb the dish praised most often, described as tender and full of flavour. Fish and chips come close behind, called crispy and fresh, alongside the pork tomahawk, fried halloumi, a veggie board with tasty cheese, and an Eton mess named as one diner's favourite. Drinkers single out the wide gin selection and range of Fever Tree tonics. Service is largely called friendly, though the complaints are specific. One diner waited a long while unserved and was told a larger group arrived later and had its order pushed ahead, and a child's meal was held back because only one starter was ordered. A large party found a kids' meal missed, drinks left out and a high chair requested despite being noted. Others found the fishcake mushy and the prawn starter bland, the Guinness disappointing, and food pricey for the quality. Two note the kitchen refuses menu changes, including adding mozzarella to a pasta dish. One reviewer suggests booking ahead in summer.

“Riverside pub by the Thames. Lovely waterside seating outside patio which makes for a very relaxing and pleasant experience. The staff were ok not to accommodating at the end of the evening, not allowing us access to the pub 15 minutes before closing. Food again was ok quite pricey for the avwrage quality.”

“Conveniently located right next to the station. Booked for a large party of 15, predominantly made up of kids. Sadly, this enquiry slipped through the cracks and I had to follow up a week later when I hadn’t heard back from the team. We had to pay a deposit (£10 per head) in advance, and submit our orders at least 5 days before our booking. On the day, our order was wrong. Drinks were left out, one kid’s meal was completely missed which caused them to get audibly upset, and staff had to be approached to provide a high chair for the toddler even though that was noted on the original reservation. The food was ok, and it’s really the view that made the day”

“We had such a wonderful experience at The Boatman in Windsor! We enjoyed a delicious meal by the riverside while watching the beautiful sunset, which made the evening even more special. I had the slow-cooked lamb, which was incredibly tender and full of flavour, while my husband ordered the pork tomahawk, and he absolutely loved it. We also started with the fried halloumi and prawn cocktail—both were fresh, tasty, and the perfect way to begin our meal. The restaurant was very busy, especially on a summer weekend, but the service was outstanding. Every member of staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. It's a shame they weren't wearing name badges because they all deserved recognition for their excellent service. If you're planning to visit, I highly recommend booking a table in advance, especially during the summer, as it gets packed. Great food, amazing service, and one of the best riverside views in Windsor—we'll definitely be back!”

“Found this place for an afternoon drink and decided to try it out in the evening for dinner...great location on the river, lots of outdoor tables with plenty of shade. Service was good, menu gave a lot of choice... food was delicious and very pleased we chose to return. Definitely recommend”

“A lovely pub in a fantastic riverside location, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a really nice atmosphere. It’s the sort of place that’s great to sit and relax, especially on a sunny day. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, which definitely made the visit more enjoyable. Unfortunately, the Guinness let it down. It looked the part, but the quality just wasn’t there. As someone who enjoys a good pint of Guinness, I wouldn’t order one here again. Overall, it’s a nice pub with a beautiful setting and excellent service, but I’d stick to something other than the Guinness next time. I’d happily return for the location and atmosphere, just not for the stout.”
