About The King Charles
The King Charles is a rural pub and inn in Winchester, at 6 Lovedon Ln, serving real ales alongside breakfast and a full kitchen menu. Food runs from a Sunday roast and fish and chips to a duck dish, with vegan options on the menu and homemade desserts to finish. Families with children have a play area tucked away to one side of the grounds, and a fire pit is there for cooler evenings, which gives the grassy garden a use beyond summer afternoons. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the large outdoor area, with a children's play area and garden that families and dog owners praise, and a fire pit mentioned too. The food draws strong praise close behind: an excellent Sunday roast, homemade desserts, lamb rump, beef with horseradish mash, fish and chips and the duck, along with good vegan options and a decent beer selection, though one reviewer wished for craft beer on keg. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, and several mention clean toilets. Value is called reasonable by a few. The main complaint comes from one diner who found the duck cold, burnt and lacking flavour, then waited until after the meal for salt that arrived in tiny sachets, and said service felt a bit rushed. That reviewer would return but likely order from the kids menu. Another visitor thanked the staff for bringing colouring and sharpened pencils for the children while the party waited.

“Amazing outdoor area for the kids. Definitely a summer pub. Service was good, felt a bit rushed. The food was not great unfortunately, I had the duck (one of the most expensive dishes) and it was cold, burnt, no flavour and needed salt. When we asked for salt, we eventually got some after our meal and they came in the smallest sachets. Would go again but very likely would eat from the kids menu”
