  “Very disappointed. Not been here for a while. Booked a table for 2, (a girlie catch up). Why is it automated? Arrived to find only 2 other tables. Within 30 minutes we were the only ones left. Ordered, left an open tab and waited about 30 minutes for our starter! A further 30 minutes and the main course arrived. The chicken looked anaemic, the ribs were lovely, I opted for a side of chips with cheese bacon and bbq sauce but couldn't do a swap so had to have the chips that came with the meal also. We both opted for a dessert (very unusual) but quite a lengthy wait. The drinks were good. A lemon cello spritzer because they were out of the Aperol. Very disappointing for a saturday night. Don't forget to check your car in if you're driving. Its not clear there is a registration and we weren't asked by any staff member if we had a car. My surprise when I received a fine in the post. It was cancelled, but it did take 2 months.”

  “Had a fantastic visit to the Downham Arms. Ryan was amazing—really bubbly, friendly, and made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. He was also quick to serve our drinks, which made the experience even better. The food was great value for money, and the drinks were very reasonably priced. Overall, it was a brilliant experience with excellent service. We'll definitely be back! If you're posting this on Google or TripAdvisor, this version should read naturally and highlight both the service and value”

  “Where do we start?! We came in as a fairly large (and slightly chaotic!) group looking forward to a good night, and thanks to one particular member of staff, that’s exactly what we got. OLLIE – give this man a pay rise! He was funny, helpful, patient and had us laughing all evening with his brilliant banter. Nothing was too much trouble, despite us being a lively bunch, and he took everything in his stride with a smile. Customer service like his is hard to find these days and he genuinely made our night one to remember. We did move a few chairs so we could all sit together, which wasn’t met with quite the same enthusiasm by some of the other staff. We appreciate pubs have policies and busy nights to manage, but when you’re accommodating a larger group, a little flexibility goes a long way. Our honest recommendation? Come here when Ollie is on shift! Whether it was his sense of humour, his endless patience or the fact that he’s rather cute, we’ll let you decide. We may have all left with a small crush on our favourite barman! It’s also worth saying that we’ve visited in the past and hadn’t always had the best experience, but things feel much improved now. The addition of door staff on Friday and Saturday nights has made a real difference in creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back (although preferably when Ollie is working!) Thanks for making our evening so much fun – staff like you are the reason people return.”

  “The service here is really good and the bartenders clearly have experience as they know what they are doing and know how to make you feel welcome and make sure you are comfortable in the establishment. Chelsea has wonderful customer service also she was lovely at my last visit. It’s is a lovely place to go for a drink and great place so see friends and family for a nice meal. A really appreciate the workers as they know how to run a nice pub/restaurant.”

  “Visited on a sunday .Downham Arms has a great menu lots of selection.our meals was amazing very hot and cooked lovely we was served by Steven who was very helpful. Also lauren at bar area was also friendly and helpful too.my husband loved watching football on tv's..a very comfortable place to go for lunch or evening meals.. we will certainly be back again and let family know its a great place in Essex for drinks and Great meals for meeting up. Thank you Downham Arms.”

  “Absolutely fantastic service and huge range of options on food the price is very reasonable with the atmosphere perfect. Would not go anywhere else for a nice cosy welcoming evening dining out. We are quite regular here and will continue to enjoy dining here.”

  “Staff are really friendly and always make our daughter smile. The food is decent for a pub and it’s clean and well looked after. I would recommend it to anyone, families and groups of friends. Unfortunately the food has let itself down. Paid £2.60 for 11 chips. They were not great either. Also £9 for a pint of Stella and a coke. I know it’s tough for pubs but that’s a joke.”
