About The Havelock Arms
The Havelock Arms is a pub in the village of Fatfield, Washington, on Bonemill Ln, with views over the River Wear. A dog menu means visitors who bring their pet can feed it too. The kitchen works from seasonal menus of pub dishes, including stone baked steaks, pie and mash, and fish and chips. A halloumi starter and a burger with skin-on fries sit alongside them, and a set menu is also available. The bar stocks local ales for drinkers who want something from the area. Tables can be booked.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the dish reviewers raise most, with one praising baked steaks that melted in the mouth and another finding the steak, schnitzel and cottage pie cooked to perfection. Close behind are the starters, including the southern fried chicken with its perfect batter and a beetroot falafel wrap. Others name the dirty burger with skin on fries, fish and chips, and a peach melba to finish. The river view, the outdoor seating and a dog menu also draw mentions, and staff are repeatedly called friendly. The complaints centre on the kitchen. One diner found the highland venison casserole short on venison, the halloumi starter seemingly straight from the freezer, and a steak small, overcooked and served with fries like cardboard. Another found the pie and mash poor value, and one says staff got angry when a complaint was raised. A busy bank holiday brought slightly slow service. One reviewer who left sunglasses behind says staff arranged collection during closed hours.

“We regularly pop in here for a cuppa and had a meal once it was delicious. Staff are always very friendly and so helpful. The atmosphere is very relaxed and you feel comfortable (even in me slippers) The outdoor seating area is a big hit ( weather permitting) There's even a dig menu so you can take your little best friends. Will keep popping in”

“Absolutely shocking place to eat. The place was empty. The food was crap and the women that served us got angry when we complained. Avoid this place like the plague. There's much better places to eat than this in Washington.”

“our servers elise and charlotte provided excellent and swift service for our food and drinks. The food we received was also excellent, I ordered the dirty burger which came with skin on fries, my partner ordered the fish and chips. Both were excellent. Much enjoyed, will visit again.”

“Selection of starters delicious. The batter on The southerfried chicken was perfect. Tried the veggie beetroot falafel wrap too.. was great. Not my thing but very well but together and tasty... fries were really nice. Good pint too! Busy bank holiday and service was good, bit slow but to be expected on BH”

“Our food here was fresh and tasty. Not quite presented as per the menus - with warm Mediterranean salad with roasted peppers etc, but it was nice. Our waitress was very lovely, so helpful and friendly - lovely smile all through our service. Nicely laid out tables. Quite a good menu. Busy place, which was good to see. Our mini dessert with a coffee of choic was really good. An enjoyable visit. Yeah would go again.”
