About The Beehive Pub
The Beehive Pub is a bar in Houghton Le Spring where parmos lead the menu, including a salt and chilli parmo, a dirty Diane parmo and a chicken parmo. The kitchen also serves a roast lunch with beef, gammon, lamb or turkey, and Yorkshire puddings come with the dinner. The roast menu offers a sharing board, a small turkey dinner and a large trio of meats, so there are portions for different appetites. Flatbreads sit alongside the parmos, and a Ferrero Rocher cheesecake is on the dessert list. Food and drinks come to the table, as the pub runs table service.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what most reviewers praise, with beef, gammon and lamb roasts, a small turkey dinner and a large trio of meats described as piping hot, with Yorkshire puddings called spot on. Close behind are the parmos, including a salt and chilli parmo and a dirty diane parmo, plus flatbreads, king prawns in batter with home made chips, and a Ferrero Rocher cheesecake. Several mention generous, filling portions, friendly staff who check in regularly, and fair prices for the quality. One reviewer notes the dining area is not huge and a little loud. The complaints are specific. One diner waited an hour for food, and a cold chicken pitta was returned, then came back from the microwave and was taken off the bill. Another found a garlic mushroom starter served on half a burger bun without warning, and the coleslaw sloppy with cheap mayo and little cabbage. A third found the chicken shawarma and curry bland. One reviewer's missing mushy peas were offset when staff made an off-menu fruity cheesecake.

“Decided to give this a go, as heard good things, but recent reviews tell another story, a few negative reviews are surfacing. Anyway we had kids meals pizza and chips, very basic, but fine. Then we opted for chicken curry and kebab for x2 adult mains. Presentation of the food, very nice. Unfortunately the taste, didn't quite live up to high standards, chicken shawarma was more like a crab meat type of meat, tasteless. The same with the curry, very bland and hardly any taste or flavour. Staff, friendly enough, did ask how I food was, but it isn't something you like to complain about face to face, as the food was well cooked and presented well, just lacked much taste. Would we go back, quite possibly yes, as the in-laws had a meal here a few months back (chicken parmo) they got it boxed up as they didn't eat it all, it was unbelievably tasty, so we would probably pick something else next time.”

“Came for food last night for our anniversary, overall would return the servers were lovely and polite and the food came fast however there was a few things that let it down slightly. Garlic mushroom starter was served on a half burger bun and they had ran out of the bread that’s usually used I was told this would have been stottie instead which I found very strange, due to this substitution that I wasn’t made aware of before I started eating I didn’t really enjoy the dish. Only other negative was the coleslaw which was £3.50 and it was awfull very cheap mayo and a lot of it with hardly any cabbage so it was quite sloppy. For the price itself you’d expect a nice homemade or decent bought in coleslaw. Even still we had a really nice meal overall and still enjoyed our evening I just wished we where offered a replacement starter or to substitute this of the bill as it was nearly £10 for a dish I couldn’t enjoy.”

“Photo doesn't do it justice....was bloody lovely..salt and chilli parmo and dirty diane parmo...best pub grub I've had in the region tbh...lovely presentation and tasted lush. Will definitely be back to try some more of the menu. The dining area isnt huge so best to book, was a little loud but not too bad. Overall very good experience.👌😋”

“I've visited here twice now both times I've been blown away by the food and friendliness of staff. Both times I've had a flatbread and loved it. I've never been able to finish food here as the portions are brilliant and the food is filling. Myself and my friend travel from South Shields/Jarrow area just to come here it's that good.”
