About The Shipwrights
The Shipwrights is a family pub in Sunderland, on Ferryboat Ln on the north Riverside, and it is open daily. The menu puts mince and dumplings next to Sunday roasts, which come with plenty of meats and gravy. Battered haddock is served with home cooked chips and mushy peas, and a homemade beef burger is available on Saturday lunchtimes. For groups, an upstairs room takes bookings and functions, and a buffet of hot and cold food can be arranged for those events.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are specific and recurring. Three reviewers say the mince and dumplings turned out mostly gravy with very little mince, and one found the lamb kofta came with oven fries rather than home made. A wedding party of 11 described the food as warmed up and flooded with gravy, with bacon on a black pudding starter too hard to chew. Another reviewer was refused salmon during roast service, found the arrabiata far hotter than the promised hint of chilli, and was told the upstairs should have closed and children had to leave.

“In the area on business, first visit, will certainly go again. The food was beautiful, proper home cooked chips not the usual pale frozen ones that get stuck in your throat. Beautiful haddock with crispy batter, mushy peas that were perfect. A crisp glass of white wine and the staff were really friendly. A proper homely pub.”
