Quick info
About The Stables Pub & Eatery
The Stables Pub & Eatery is a gastropub in Houghton Le Spring, set in an old-world building where trinkets cover the walls and ceilings and fairy lights run through the room. The menu follows a pub grub approach with homemade food, and fish and chips sits on it alongside a Sunday roast with beef as one of the options. Games are available to use in the pub, which gives tables something to do between courses and drinks. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along for a meal or a drink.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the Sunday roast, with beef singled out by one reviewer who doesn't usually order it. Close behind are the fish and chips, a battered chicken burger with spicy red Leicester, steak pie, carbonara and black pudding, which reviewers call homely, plentiful and flavoursome. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful, and several mention that the prices felt reasonable for the portions. Reviewers also pick out the quirky character of the building, with trinkets on the walls and ceilings, fairy lights, games to use and outdoor seating where a dog was welcome. The main caveat is pace. One reviewer found service a little slow, with larger tables getting faster attention, and waited a long time to order more drinks and ask for a dessert menu, though the mains were considered excellent after the wait. Another reviewer says they will book a table next time after getting in without a reservation. One family celebrating a birthday had their decorations put on the table and a cake brought out at the end.

“Love this quirky pub! Went in on a Sunday for food...not thinking about the time and Sunday dinner. They were busy but the staff were lovely and friendly and we managed to get a table with very little wait. The food was amazing, I had the roast and husband had the fish dish. 2 courses were very reasonably priced. Would have had desert but the starters and roast finished me off. Funky trinkets on the walls and ceilings and some games you can use.”
