  “I liked this pub. The staff were welcoming and efficient. I liked the menu, there was plenty of choice, including traditional favourites like mince and dumplings, which was good. Also at lunch time smaller portions were available,. The prices were reasonable and we had an acceptable bottle of red wine. I wish I lived closer to the pub.”

  “We were in the area so we booked for a meal. Arrived at the unkept carpark, the place looked a little run down, but we went in anyway. After making our way through the dimly lit, right corridor to the bar area, we we approached a guy standing at bar and were seated. He was a nice guy - patient and polite. When to took out drinks orders he told me they don't stock full fat coke because of the (ready for this...) "sugar tax". Introduced EIGHT years ago and not they don't stock any proper sugar drinks, just the more dangerous falsely sweetened ones. In a pub. He claimed it was too expensive but from my recollection, profit on soft drinks is very high so this shows pure greed. I just stood up and we walked out. I won't be back and I won't recommend this place either. No proper coke in a pub. 🤷🏻 Are they for real? We left and went to a restaurant/pub elsewhere, I asked if they had coke, the waitress looked at me smiling for asking such a ridiculous question and said "yes, if course". This most ridiculous place I've been to - the barman, nice guy. I hope we didn't waste his time.”

  “Visited here for the first time before an event at Sunderland Live round the corner. Huge car park and the pub itself is deceivingly large inside with a quaint pub side and a restaurant side. The menu is pretty big plus a specials board. Loads of choice. Friendly greeting when ordering a drink and was looked after really well by the barman who took my order and delivered my food. I had fish and chips which was really nice. Perfectly cooked fresh cod in crispy batter and lots of chips with it and it came super promptly. All the food I saw coming out looked lovely and I’d love to go back and try more options especially a Sunday lunch. I was there about 5pm on a Thursday and they were pretty busy which is testament to how good they are.”

  “Always amazing food here, whether it a mid week treat or Sunday roast. Great specials board & small plates available along side their full menu. A regular go to for us when we want "proper"food from a pub, not the brought in, pre prepped stuff too many do these days. Yesterday was the open club sandwich -with a fried egg, which is genius btw- and added chips for £1.50.... and small plates fish and chips, (Great for pensioners). Love it!”

  “I stopped at the pub last night. First impression, it was nice but a little out dated. However, I hadn't booked a table but was led to a table by a young girl and was given the menu (a bit tatty), and she took my drink order. I got my drink but then I was forgotten about. I went to the bar to order some food, the young man apologised, he didn't realise that I was already seated and took my order. The meal (poached salmon), was delicious and an adequate amount. The young man was interactive with everyone as he got on with his tasks, also came back to check if everything was ok. I will return to try some other meals.”

  “Went in for an evening meal. The food was really good and with decent portions. The lounge looks a bit dated and the table we sat at was very high so awkward to eat at unfortunately. Could do with a refresh maybe. The staff were very quick and the food was also very prompt after ordering. Worth going to especially if heading to the Sunderland Live arena after...”

  “Sunday roast - very tasty and huge portions. The pork was really tasty and the crackling really crispy. My friends agreed the beef was very good too. Service - very warm, friendly, efficient and swift. Always happy to offer little extras like sauce pots and Gravy. Even coped well with a late addition to the party. Atmosphere - a bit noisy to hear at the far end of our long table but that's cos it generated good conversations. 4.7 / 5 *”

  “The chicken kievs are so good here. Food is always good quality, proper chips and really great portions. The sticky toffee pudding is also really tasty. Service is great, friendly staff and gives that proper local pub feel. Good atmosphere and it was busy for a Tuesday night.”
