About The New Inn

The New Inn is a bar in Walsall, on New Inn, where the pub kitchen is run by a separate Indian takeaway operation. That arrangement puts curries, naans and grills on the menu alongside the drinks, with the grills served for two in small and large sizes. Madras and chicken curry come with rice, poppadoms and starters, and the naans include a cheese and chilli version and a keema version. Spicy chips are available as a side to the curries. The pub also has a pool table.

Customer Review Summary

Most reviewers come for the Indian food that is delivered or taken away, and the naan draws the most praise, with the cheese and chilli naan called perfection and another reviewer calling the naan the best they ever had. The madras with its chicken, the spicy chips and the curries also earn praise, along with hot, quick delivery and generous portions. Close behind, the pub itself gets a friendly welcome, with a pool table, five lagers and a single bitter, Worthington, which one reviewer says is not for beer bores. Complaints are mixed. One reviewer found the chicken in a curry undercooked and the spiced chips and naan takeaway too small, while another found the grill portions small for a family meal and the keema naan thick and doughy with hardly any meat. One reviewer also found the pub closed during normal hours with no contact number. Another found the pub quiet on a weekday, and that reviewer rated the pint a really nice one. One takeaway arrived with no free poppadoms, onion salad or mint sauce.

“Love the pub great people good atmosphere...the thing that let's the place down is the food....its over priced and under portioned...I had a chicken curry recommended by another patron and the chicken was not cooked through I paid for two portions of spiced chips for take away with a nan and I was very disappointed when I got it home withe the portions, when I went back and told the chef his excuse for the undercooked chicken was a different supplier...not sure how that causes it to be undercooked, and the small portions excuse was we always give less for take aways .... my advice is don't use them for a Indian take away, save your money and stick to who you trust...as a pub on the other hand it's a great place for a beer and sports.... the Indian take away isn't part of the pub they just work out of the kitchen and to be honest shouldn't be there as it reflects on the pub as there's been a few complaints so save your money and get a proper take away.”

“I have recently moved to walsall the New Inn is my nearest pub but it seem the owner / manager opens when he wants. I have been several times in normal pub hours and it has been closed also there is no contact phone number. So looks like I'll have to find somewhere else.”

“Really lovely food, first time ordering. Polite man on phone, polite delivery driver. Good quality and tasty food delivered piping hot and fairly quickly. Would recommend. The naan bread was the best we ever had from anywhere. The chicken in the madras lovely and the rice nice too. The spicy chips were really nice. Only thing we didnt like was the mint sauce unfortunately but everything else was delicious”

“having ordered a takeaway for two and was suitably impressed, quick delivery, tasty food, takeaways not usually the best way to judge but found it to be one of the best takeaways of indian food ive had.We then booked for six of the family to eat in. Two of us had curries, and the others had grills. The currys were very good all the sundries the naans, the different style of chips were excellent. The only downside was the portion size on the grills, those that had them felt in comparison to other grill bars in the area that the small grill for 2 should have been the large grill for 2, and the large grill for 2 should have been large grill plus small grill for 2. That is the only gripe really overall excellent amd worth a visit or takeaway”
