About The Three Houses
The Three Houses is a pub on Barnsley Rd in Wakefield, dating to the 1700s and warmed by an open fire. Dogs get a menu of their own here, a bowl of ham, mash, peas, carrots and gravy, so owners can bring a dog along for the meal. The bar menu runs to 46 dishes of classic British and global food, including Belly Pork Bon Bons and Creamy Brie Wedges. Tuesday is pie night, with a pie served alongside fries, mash or veg, and the steak and ale pie arrives with home made chips, veg and gravy. Sunday lunch is served, and weekday deals are offered. A quiz night runs weekly. Tim Taylor Landlord is poured at the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Pie night draws the most praise, with reviewers describing a steak and ale pie with home made chips and gravy, a slice packed with meat, and kids who cleared their plates and asked to return. A lamb pie special and a pair of pies shared at one table also get mentions. Close behind is Sunday lunch, where diners single out the garlic mushrooms, beef nachos, mash and a very sticky toffee pudding, while others praise a runny scotch egg and ribs from the new menu. Portions are called generous, and one reviewer rates the Tim Taylor Landlord the best they have tasted. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive, with quick service even on a busy Monday. One reviewer found the food enjoyable and consistent but wanted a bit more wow to match the service. Several mention the cosy fire and a dog-friendly welcome, including one dog served a bowl of ham, mash, peas, carrots and gravy.

“Fantastic food. My tummy enjoys their lovely chips. Yummy yummy yums. Thank you!!!!! Regular visitor of this establishment. Some times I just sit in the toilets for hours as I don't want to be anywhere else but the 3s!”

“First time I have called to this pub come restaurant. It won't be the last. We visited on Tuesday which was a pie night. Absolutely lovely steak and ale pie with proper home made chips with veg and lovely gravy. A must to try, excellent value too. Service was brilliant to boot.”

“If you are looking for a classic pub experience that strikes a balance between a cozy local watering hole and a professional dining environment, The Three Houses is well worth a visit. Having stopped by recently, I found the experience to be largely positive, defined mostly by the exceptional hospitality that sets it apart from many other establishments in the area. Service: The Standout Feature The service during my visit was easily the highlight of the afternoon. From the moment we walked through the door, the staff were attentive, friendly, and efficient. It is rare to find a team that manages to be so welcoming without being overbearing, but the staff here have nailed that balance. Whether it was the speed of the drinks or the check-back during the meal, the four-star rating for service is well-deserved. It’s clear that the management prioritizes customer care, and it makes a significant difference in the overall enjoyment of the visit. Atmosphere & Interior The pub boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere. As you can see from the interior, it retains a traditional charm with comfortable seating and a layout that feels both spacious and intimate. It’s the kind of place where you feel just as comfortable settling in for a long Sunday lunch as you would popping in for a quick pint. The "vibe" is relaxed and unpretentious, which is exactly what you want from a community-focused pub. Food & Final Thoughts While the food was enjoyable and satisfied our cravings, I’ve rated it a three-star experience simply because there is room for a bit more "wow" factor to bring it up to the level of the service. That said, the portions were fair and the quality was consistent with what you’d expect from a solid pub menu. Overall, The Three Houses earns a strong four stars. It is a reliable, high-quality spot with a team that truly cares about your experience. I’ll certainly be returning, even if just for the excellent hospitality and the comfortable surroundings.”

“What a fantastic place. The Tim Taylor Landlord was the best I have ever tasted, the food was outstanding and the portions very generous, and the service top notch. Everyone was so friendly. I am fortunate enough to eat out quite regularly but, all things considered, this was my most enjoyable pub / restaurant visit for months, possibly even longer. I would go back in a heartbeat.”
