About Swan & Cygnet
Swan & Cygnet is a pub in Wakefield on Denby Dale Rd, near Pugneys Country Park, with a dedicated dog menu for the dogs customers bring along. The carvery has chefs serving the meat, which comes with potatoes or mash, and guests ring a bell to get service. Away from the carvery, the menu includes a mixed grill, so groups can order different plates at one table. Inside, a fireplace and sofas give guests a place to settle in. The pub is open daily, and it hosts events such as group painting sessions.

Customer Review Summary
The carvery draws the most mentions, and opinions on it split. One diner found the meat not dry and the potatoes fluffy, and a parent visiting with two SEN children liked the carvery, with mash that was not from a packet. Another reviewer reports a lukewarm plate, cold cauliflower cheese, a tiny hard slice of beef and watery gravy, plus a curt exchange with a server. Close behind, diners praise a tasty lasagna, a huge burger and a Tikka Masala described as spot on. Friendly staff come up repeatedly, and one server is singled out by several reviewers. The complaints are concrete. One mixed grill arrived after a long wait with gristly steak, bullet-like peas and a burnt tomato, following till problems and a refused voucher. Another diner describes dry fish, reheated-looking chips, worn dirty seating and a dirty wine glass. A third says some sofas and the outside tables could be cleaner. Others enjoyed the outdoor huts and the fireplace after a walk around the country park, and a dog menu pleased one visitor.

“Ideally situated after a pleasant walk around pugneys country park. We came across this pub, it was lovely inside & sat by the fireplace. Food was excellent & staff friendly, in particular Wendy who served us. An added bonus for dog lovers, it had a dog menu which I thought was great. My daughter thought this lovely & will definitely pay a visit with her dog.”

“Food was good better than we expected. Had the carvery. Meat was good, not dry. Staff were very good too . Chefs serving very helpful and bar staff good. Potatoes very nicely cooked, fluffy and not dry like some places do. Didn't have to wait. Good drinks selections. Gave us the table we requested and let us move tables and were very helpful with that. Toilets clean. I only put 4 as I think could be a little cleaner in some of the sofas and maybe needs a little revamp, including the outside tables.”

“We had a great meal at the Swan & Cygnet. The lasagna was really tasty, full of flavour, and the burger was absolutely huge – definitely worth ordering if you're hungry! We chose to sit in one of the outdoor hut seating areas, which made for a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and added something a bit different to the experience. The food, setting, and overall visit were excellent, and we'd happily come back again. Highly recommended!”

“After a terrible christmas party I haven't been back in almost 2 years. Recently we got a 40% off voucher and thought it's been years it must have improved but how wrong we we're. Tills went down, told to order on app but then wouldn't wouldn't accept the voucher. The tills came back on so we managed to (unfortunately) order at the bar. Should have left then but stayed. 50 minuets it took for our 2 mixed grills to arrive and it was fairly quiet (not surprised now) for a Saturday afternoon. The only decent thing on the plate was the chips. Peas like bullets, sausages just returned from armageden, steak full of gristle and overcooked, tomato burnt to a crisp on the bottom. Save some time and money and head to the toby carvery down the road.”

“Went for a Carvery today with my dog and my ex,normally the Carvery is brilliant but sadly today it was not. Was near to 1pm so not like the food had been sat out for hours but was luke warm(even the fresh out of the kitchen cauliflower cheese was cold)and had no cheese flavour at all.. Very tight portions of meat for the price and beef was the last of the joint and the tiny slice was rock hard (Tilly dog had to chew it well and she normally gulps meat down). All served by a very unhappy lady with no manners it seems as I later found out she spoke to my ex in a very bad tone(Don't you know there is a bell to ring ? when there no clear signage of this)my ex is very patient and polite so quite shocking.. We had our dog with us so went up separately while each handled the dog.. All in all a very bad meal with a very powdery texture like things came out of a packet and the gravy was transparent and watery but again packet like.. Real shame because it's always been great in the past.. £8 for a pint of coke and a diet coke is a joke btw.. Staff attitude means a lot so the unhappy server needs telling her bad day has nothing to do with customers paying good money for low par food.. Please get back to where you were before. Sorry my review isn't great but it reflects my experience today. Edit...It's ok saying sorry and can you put it right but you have given no option to redeem that offer so your reply is useless... An email for a small discount would be good...Nobody expects a free meal... The main point for me is I can't ever recommend you again...”
