On Bathford Hill in Bath, The Crown at Bathford is a pub where live music is part of the programme, and the garden is one of the places it is played. That gives groups of friends a reason to stay outside as well as in. The kitchen cooks burgers in blue cheese, lamb and chicken versions, alongside a lamb stew and a Sunday roast. Customer Review Summary
Burgers draw the most praise, with one diner calling the blue cheese burger very meaty and savoury, another recommending the lamb or chicken burger, and a third saying the burgers looked great. Close behind are the stews, with a lamb stew special and a beef stew both singled out, plus excellent chips. Reviewers describe a relaxed, traditional pub with rustic decor, comfy chairs, a good selection of beers and spirits, and live music in the landscaped garden. Staff are repeatedly called friendly. The main complaint comes from one detailed negative review: chips that looked refried, inedible peas, and a chicken mayo sandwich on stale ciabatta swamped in garlic mayo, with full price still charged and a service fee attempted after the complaint. That reviewer also describes slow plate clearing in a quiet pub and a rude manageress. Another visitor found the Sunday roast sold out by dinner time. Dogs are welcome inside on leads, and one waiter brought water and biscuits for a pair of pups.

“Came for the Sunday roast but they sold out by dinner time. The service was great and the dogs were allowed inside the restaurant with thier leads on. The waiter gave my pups water and biscuits 😋. We ordered the beef stew and fish sandwich. Great vibes, very low key place. Well decorated and gives you a homey feel. We lived nearby so we walked over and enjoyed a couple of beers and dinner on a Sunday. Not too busy.”

“An excellent traditional pub atmosphere on the outskirts of Bath. A great place to bring friends and family. I had the blue cheese burger and it was out of this world. Very meaty and savoury, just what I needed! Chips were excellent. I also had the calamari, and whilst frozen, was still quite good. Came served piping hot. Would be back here again!”

“Amazing food and really good portions. We went for the French stuff but burgers looked great. Service was super friendly as well. Couldn’t recommend this place more and excited to go back for some live music!”
