About Abbey Refreshments
On Abbey Park in Torquay, Abbey Refreshments is a takeaway kiosk and cafe with a walk-up counter and no reservations needed. Every hot drink comes with a free homemade snack, whether a rock bun, cake, or chocolate wafer, and a suspended drink option lets customers pay ahead for someone in need. The counter also serves whippy and Yards Farm ice creams, including salted caramel and double chocolate, alongside milkshakes made to order, waffles, hot cinnamon buns, and bacon baps. Outdoor seating on benches and the surrounding lawn gives visitors a spot to eat outside, and a step-free entrance suits customers with mobility needs. Dogs are welcome, and high chairs are available for families with young children. It opens daily. The business is small and family-run.

Customer Review Summary
The free homemade snack that comes with every hot drink is what reviewers raise most, with a rock bun, cake and a chocolate wafer among the treats they mention, and several call it a reason to return. Close behind is the coffee, with one reviewer praising the iced coffee and another the hot chocolate, along with the friendly, quick service from a small family-run team. Ice cream draws steady mentions too, including whippy cones with flakes, Yards Farm flavours like salted caramel and double chocolate, and milkshakes made while you wait. Reviewers also single out hot cinnamon buns, waffles and a bacon bap described as huge. Several write about the suspended coffee scheme, where customers buy a drink in advance for someone in need, and one says the owner puts no pressure on anyone to join in. The only caution comes from a reviewer who fed bits of the bap to crows and another who warns about seagulls along the seafront. Visitors describe sitting on garden benches by the sea, and one says the free snack made it their third morning in a row.

“Great place to stop for a drink and food with lots of choice in the park. Free snack with our coffee which was a lovely gesture, great reason to return, this is our third morning. Service was very friendly and a quiet park to sit and relax. So good to support independent businesses. We are coming back later for lunch and cream tea. Definitely worth visiting.”

“Probably the only take away in The Bay which serves top quality coffee at cracking prices. Not to mention the food, drinks, and an amazing variety on offer £3.20 for a latte, that’s May 2026. And a free treat as well !! Support this independent gem”
