About Queen Elizabeth Cafe
Queen Elizabeth Cafe, a cafe and breakfast spot on Fore St in Torquay, hangs pictures of Queen Elizabeth on its walls, a display that went up over the jubilee weekend. Breakfast is the mainstay here, served at lunchtime as well as in the morning, with a big breakfast on the menu alongside omelettes, and plates take in fried bread, bacon, sausages, hash browns and mushrooms. There is no booking. You sit down, a menu comes over, and the order, drinks, food and cutlery all arrive at the table. A loyalty card, including one for hot drinks, is handed out towards the next visit. The step-free entrance keeps the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs, high chairs cover families with young children, and dogs are welcome inside. Seating outdoors gives the option of eating in the open air. The cafe opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays, and the team greets the regulars and locals who come through the door.

Customer Review Summary
The cooked breakfast draws most of the comment, ordered by several groups even at lunchtime and described as freshly cooked and fairly priced, with one diner singling out fried bread done properly and bacon that wasn't salty; a jacket potato also gets a mention. Close behind is the carrot cake, which one reviewer calls the best they have tasted, praising a moist crumb and smooth, slightly tangy frosting. The welcome recurs throughout, including from a group arriving with a wheelchair who felt greeted before they had even entered, and locals and the team are described as familiar and supportive of one another. Portion size is the sticking point: one reviewer waited a long time, counted seven chips and a children's meal of three nuggets and four chips, and saw servers smoking outside, while another reports a large breakfast with a single slice of bacon, a small omelette, and a hair in the mushrooms. Several mention being handed a loyalty card for hot drinks on the way out.

“This morning's carrot cake was the outstanding! I've enjoyed carrot cake in SO many places but this is far and away the best I've ever tasted. It was moist and had just the right amount of nuts...but it was the frosting that was so good...smooth and slightly tangy. Perfect!”

“Terrible value for money breakfast this morning. The large breakfast had 1 slice of bacon and 1 hash brown, not at all like other large breakfasts locally. Hair in the mushrooms and my wife's omelette was tiny. Better value breakfasts elsewhere. Won't be going back”

“Had breakfast at this quaint little cafe on Monday. Lovely owner who appeared obsessed with Queen Liz, friendly service and good food priced good. Typical locals cafe. Will return.”

“Absolutely insane - and I'm absolutely here for all of it! What a fab cafe, so much fun and the food isn't bad either. A good breakfast for a sensible price. Fried bread was spot on (not as easy as people think) and whilst the sausages were your cheap catering types, they were well cooked and the bacon wasn't salty - just right. Lovely welcome and hugely helpful servers and service. Just what was needed to lift the spirits!”

“Felt welcomed even before we had decided to enter as we were outside looking at the menu with a wheelchair. Once in, we were sat comfortably. The meal was very good (had a big breakfast and a jacket potato). Toilet was clean, although disabled facilities were not available in the cafe. Saw the member of staff greet everyone friendly, including regulars. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Plan to visit again very soon.”
