Customer Review Summary

Most reviewers come for the cooked breakfast, with the full English and the fry up praised, one noting it arrived very soon after being seated, and several calling it reasonably priced. One regular also favours a bacon, sausage and hash brown baguette to takeaway. Close behind are the cakes, flapjacks and sandwiches, with the bread pudding singled out as wonderful and huge by two reviewers, and the omelettes with chips and paninis called incredible. Coffee gets steady praise, one reviewer describing it as super hot in an oversized cup and another as one of the best in Torquay. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and one gluten and dairy free diner found their needs catered for. Slow, disorganised service is the recurring complaint: one reviewer nearly missed a train because the rest of the order took forever after the bread pudding arrived. One couple reports rude staff and watery coffee, and says they left without a refund or apology.

“A real chance find on my way to Torre Abbey. Lovely atmosphere, comfortable & clearly popular with locals - I can see why! Good coffee & fab cakes. The bread pudding was wonderful!”

“A busy cafe frequented by locals many of whom are regulars. The food is good with a large variety of cakes, sandwiches, paninis and meals including breakfasts. The food is good, the atmosphere not bad and the service friendly if not disorganised. But if you aren’t in a rush this is a welcoming cafe”

  • Greg Standsford
“"Avoid at all costs" dreadful experience at this establishment as the staff were rude, and argumentative to both my wife and myself when questioning the quality of food and watery Coffee that was placed at our table. The manager did nothing to resolve the situation, and we were both made to feel unwelcome. We left without being given any refund or apology, and will not be returning at any time in the future.”
