Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the food at the Reverend James, with the mega mixed grill (steak, gammon, chicken breast, sausage, egg and onion rings) described as excellent value. Others name the ribs, fish and chips, chicken and mushroom pie, stack burgers, a flavourful Indian platter, and the scampi and chips, which one diner calls the best. Close behind is the friendly, welcoming staff, with one reviewer saying they hadn't felt so welcome in a pub for a very long time. The dog-friendly bar and beer garden come up repeatedly, and one reviewer uses the bar for a quiet coffee. A few mention the Pinot Grigio and the prices. The main criticism is the outdoor seating, where one reviewer found only backless wooden benches and picnic tables. One diner suggests calling ahead when booking for food. Another reviewer was sorry the kitchen was closed on their visit, and a diner who liked the busy room closes with a note that it was good to see the place full for a change.

“Sat outside and had a couple drinks on a summer's eve. Pleasant enough, nice staff. The restaurant looked welcoming inside. Would be nice if outside had a couple nice seats rather than just backless, wooden benches / picnic tables.”

“Had a fantastic meal. Really good food, friendly service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Had the mega mixed grill which for £23.99 was excellent value (2 steak, 2 gammon steak, chicken breast, 4 sausage, 2 egg, mushrooms, onion rings, chips, tomato and peas). Others had the ribs, fish and chips, chicken and mushroom pie and gammon. All good tasty portions and nothing wasted. Would definitely go back. Highly recommended 🙂👍”
