About The Three Tuns

The Three Tuns is a pub at 19 High St in Sutton Coldfield, made up of two original buildings joined together, with the original coach drive running up the middle. Inside, there are several rooms to choose from. The bar pours four cask ales alongside a regularly changing guest ale, including Thwaites Ribble Valley beers such as Thwaites IPA. Six keg lagers are on draft, Guinness is served, and a fridge holds a wider range of other drinks. Meals come from a home cooked menu with vegetarian options, and customers order them at the bar. Live bands play here, and an open mic night adds another music option. The pub also tells a resident ghost boy story as part of its local history. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Friendly staff come up in most reviews, from a barman who made a visitor away for work feel welcome to a team that looked after a birthday group. Food follows closely. An 8 oz steak with mushrooms and chips and a beef Sunday roast are both described as very large and good value, and one diner notes plenty of vegetarian options. Real ale also gets praise, with Thwaites IPA, Original Bitter and Thwaites Gold named alongside Guinness. Live music draws both regulars and first-timers. One reviewer enjoyed Seventh Son's covers, including The Stone Roses, and another praises Blue Eyed Soulsters at an open mic night. Reviewers also mention the pub's history and character: two original buildings joined by the original coach drive, and one reader enjoyed learning about the resident ghost boy.

“Tried this pub out today, never been before. Several rooms to choose from, and bar that serves real ale with a good choice, so my partner was happy. Extensive menu, and ordered meal at bar. I had 8 oz steak with mushrooms, chips peas and tomato, my partner had beef Sunday roast. Both meals were nicely cooked, and very large. Good value for money here, and staff very helpful and friendly.”

Highlights

“Although no longer a rest stop for weary travellers, The Three Tuns was the oldest hostelry in Sutton Coldfield, then known as THE THREE TUNS HOTEL. Fast forward to the 20th century, the Hotel became The Three Tuns pub, and ever since we have been known as one of the best traditional pubs in the Birmingham area, with great ales on draft, a delicious home cooked menu, wonderful live bands and the best atmosphere in Sutton Coldfield. We pride ourselves on providing a diverse selection of drinks, from the well-known to the up and coming new tastes that are fresh on the scene. We have our 4 cask ales with a regularly changing new guest ale, 6 keg lagers on draft, as well as a fridge brimming with a fine and diverse selection.”
