Customer Review Summary

The roast draws the most comment, and opinions split. Praise goes to a large Sunday roast with three meats, homemade Yorkshire puddings and veg that was not overcooked, plus beautiful beef at a Monday lunch. Others report chewy beef, rock-hard roast potatoes and a burnt, dry Yorkshire pudding, and one describes rewarmed beef. Steak is mixed too: sirloin, New York steak, lamb shank and fish pie are called delicious, but one couple says their well done steaks have arrived wrongly cooked on three visits. Sticky toffee pudding earns praise, while one diner found the tiramisu stale and dry. Staff are often described as friendly and accommodating, and several mention generous portions and good value. One reviewer notes drinks put down without a word. Faulty dishes sent back were replaced with a fresh steak or a steak and ale pie.

“We visited on 23 July 26 . Had two lovely meals me and my husband. Great staff and we spoke to the owner very pleasant man. Been for a meal before still the same standard of food and service. Definitely worth a visit”

“First time for a Sunday lunch, booked early to have everything fresh, but how wrong we were, yesterdays rewarmed beef, burnt black dry yorkie and the fatty roast pototoe had the bottom cut off, probably to remove the burnt bit, thin watery gravy and overcooked veg, awful. It was sent back, the staff were great. Exchanged for steak and ale pie which was ok, chips not so. Why we had a sweet I don't know! Tirimisu, stale and dry. Ice cream with it was nice. Very disappointing 😞”

“Came for tea last night (06.06.26), food was lovely and came out quickly, however service was not up to scratch. A lady with red hair plonked our drinks down on to the table without saying anything and did the same with the sauces. When it came to paying the bill, we didn’t even have a thank you once we’d paid, she just walked away. Not a smile in sight. We never post reviews like this, but when we received service like this, we were genuinely shocked for such a reputable place.”

“We have been here 3 times in last 2 years and I’m sorry to say every visit we have had steak myself and husband both like our steaks well done unfortunately on all 3 occasions they have not been cooked as per our order yes the staff are very apologetic and we do get a fresh meal steak cooked how we like it, on our last visit 25/6/ it was a very hot night , there were no fans in the pub waiter took us to our table right next to a full length window I asked if we could sit somewhere else as it was too hot in the window I just got mumbled at as he looked around my husband shut the curtains and said we be ok, we ordered drinks a shandy and glass of wine these took 10 mins to arrive. We ordered food which when arrived looked lovely and because of our previous encounters with the steak we cut into it first to find not cooked how we ordered explained to waitress who apologised and took it away I ordered a jug of water this took 15-20 mins to arrive after I went to the bar to ask were the water was. Our second round of food arrived husbands was burnt and mine was ok but the bacon on top was so hard I couldn’t cut it, the chips were under cooked as well and onion rings where that crispy there didn’t seem to be any onion in them all in all 3 bad experiences. Unfortunately we will not be returning”
