About The Hinds Head

The Hinds Head is a pub on Manchester Rd in Stockport, with a conservatory area set aside for gatherings and meals. The kitchen serves home cooked food in large portions, including a sweet chilli chicken sizzler. Sunday lunch is on the menu as well, and it comes out just as generous. At the bar, the drinks list runs from draught lagers and hand pulled real ales to quality bitters and dark ales, alongside a range of hand selected wines.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the home cooked food, with the Sunday lunch singled out for large portions and the sweet chilli chicken sizzler described as a big, superbly cooked plate. Close behind are the lamb rump with mint and chilli from the specials board, the black pudding and sausage with a light mustard sauce, and a cheese and onion pie with chips, beans and gravy that a meat-free diner compared to a nostalgic school dinner. Staff are repeatedly called welcoming and attentive, and several mention the conservatory and beer garden, along with a good range of draught beers and lagers and non alcoholic options. The recurring caveats are small but specific: one diner found the conservatory so full that they had to raise their voice and lean in to hear, and another was surprised by how high the price of a pint of bitter had become. One family celebrated a 70th birthday in the conservatory, where staff let them bring decorations and music and provided a cake stand.

“I went to the Hinds Head for a wake unfortunately. However the pub is in a loverly location and the interior is very nice. Having not been anywhere for social reasons for a very long time I must admit I was very surprised at how much the price of drinks 😳 had risen I was paying £4.90 for a pint of bitter. I realised why so many pubs are closing down and why supermarkets are probably making so much more on their alcohol sales.”

“First visit here, lovely afternoon sat outside, free parking. Food was excellent as was the service. Our server Kiera couldnt do enough for us & every request was met with a smile & a polite conversation. We dont live anywhere near here but would absolutely visit again.... ♡”

“I'm giving a 5 for atmosphere even though it was probably hard to judge at that time of day, it was nice and quiet to sit and enjoy a meal. . I loved it in there and will be back soon. It was my sons 21st so we only went for a meal and two drinks. I don't eat meat and it's hard to find something on the menu that doesn't look and taste like meat. Here I ordered cheese and onion pie with chips, beans and gravy (don't knock it until you've tried it). It was like eating a nostalgic school dinner, only one with lots of flavour and was very morish. The staff are very nice and welcoming. The pub was much bigger than it looked from outside and it was very clean. Highly recommend.”

“Visited for the first time at lunch, and was pleasantly surprised. The staff greeted us and showed us to a table straight away. The home cooked food was excellent and the service that came with it was second to none. We enjoyed it so much my wife is going to book it next week for my birthday. Thank you Hinds Head *****”
