Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most repeated praise, from a vegetarian roast where the kitchen took extra time to do the roast potatoes to a roast platter with a bottle of wine for a birthday lunch. Close behind are the pub mains: a rare steak, fish and chips, meat pudding and suet pudding, with portions described as generous and food arriving hot. The Honeycombe Cheesecake with ice cream and a sizzling prawn stir fry are also singled out. Staff are called friendly and helpful throughout, and several praise the clean, renovated interior, the roaring fire and the choice of ales and lagers. One reviewer suggests phoning ahead for a table. The main complaint comes from one Mother's Day party who found the food cold and stale and felt insulted when a cup of coffee was the only remedy offered. Another diner, back after the revamp, found the steak and ale pie unavailable and was content with the meat pudding instead.

“This pub does not belong to a pub chain, so all food is good from fresh. Lots of choice also do a kids menu plus hot and cold sandwiches. Reasonable prices . Lovely clean pub nice decor, large out side beer garden bit of a play area for the kids. Finally found all the staff very helpful. Highly recommend.”

“It was our first time having a meal since the revamp. It was a positive experience. The steak and ale pie wasn’t available so I opted for the meat pudding. I wasn’t disappointed. A generous portion at a so, so price. I would have a meal here again no question.”

“Really disappointing experience here, especially considering it was meant to be a special Mother’s Day meal. We spent over £100 expecting a nice family meal, but unfortunately it was anything but. The food arrived cold and clearly not fresh — it tasted stale and honestly just awful. For the prices they charge, the quality was extremely poor. It completely ruined what was supposed to be a lovely Mother’s Day treat. What made it worse was how the situation was handled. When we raised the issue, the only thing offered to “resolve” it was a cup of coffee, despite the fact we had spent over £100 on the meal. That felt pretty insulting considering how bad the food was. Overall, very poor food and even worse customer service. Sadly it spoiled what should have been a special occasion. Definitely wouldn’t recommend and won’t be returning.”

“Popped in early on spec, we wasn't disappointed. Menu varied and reasonably priced. Roaring fire, house red wine lovely. Service was speedy, food served hot, portion sizes good and absolutely delicious and definitely worth a 10 out of 10. Staff friendly and attentive. Highly recommend, we will be hot footing back very soon.”

“After Rock Choir Gig Christmas get together. Food was pre-ordered because we had a big party but the food was not compromised at all. It was fresh, hot, tasty, arrived at the same time and was delicious!! I opted for the suet pudding and it did not disappoint although I was envious of everyone else's choices too! 😋😋😋”
