About Abbots Mitre

Abbots Mitre is a beamed country inn and pub in Stockbridge, on Village St. The kitchen works from a specials board that changes, with ribs among the food specials listed on it. A set menu offers two courses or three, and fish pie sits on the regular menu. Sticky toffee pudding is one of the desserts. At the bar, a selection of local cask ales covers the real ale side. Dogs are welcome inside, so walkers can bring them along.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the ribs from the specials board, called the best some have had in a long time, with one reviewer hoping they return to the main menu. Close behind are the fish pie, fish cakes, tempura prawns, quiche and puddings such as the creme brulee, sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb bread and butter pudding. The real ales and local cask selection also draw praise, along with friendly, quick staff and a welcome for a party with three dogs in the bar. The main complaints are practical. One reviewer found the car park completely full, with little room on the road and signs asking pub patrons not to park outside houses, and says the dining room was busy and noisy with staff a bit stretched. Another called the roast beef the blandest they had eaten, with boiled-tasting roast potatoes, dry carrots and a beef that was meant to be pink but was not. One family had a spilled drink replaced free and with a smile.

“We were let down by another restaurant, I spoke to a member of staff at Abbots Mitre to see if they had a table available. They were very accommodating, considering it was a Friday night and managed to give us a big table for six. Food was really good, and the staff were outstanding. Made our evening extra special. Definitely going back and would recommend to all.”

“The food was nice and reasonably priced. It was busy & fairly noisy in the restaurant with several table talking loudly, the staff were a bit stretched but the Service was ok. The only downside was the Parking, there is a CarPark but it was completely full, there was little room to park on the road and some properties had signs asking Pub Patrons not to park outside houses. I would recommend booking and arriving earlier in the evening. It is a very popular pub.”

“Very nice with a simple menu and pricing, 2 courses for £20. Had the quiche which both me and my partner agreed was one of the best we had ever had, waffle for dessert which was also excellent, staff very attentive and friendly, can't really ask for much more.”

“The roast beef came out within 5 minutes of ordering. Probably the blandest roast I've had. The roast potatoes were mostly just boiled potatoes with slightly burnt edges but definitely not roasted. The carrots were very dry, cauliflower cheese was nice but hardly any cheese sauce. Overall everything was just very bland. The beef was meant to be pink but wasn't pink at all. Quick service and the girl who served us was nice and polite.”

“Our party of six and three dogs visited on a Saturday afternoon and were made very welcome in the bar area for lunch. The food and drink were delicious and very good value. My tempura prawns were crisp and the dip sticky and spicy. The fish pie was top class, ingeniously presented. There were food specials, the ribs were applauded. Everyone thought this was one of the best pub lunchtimes they could remember for a long time. Bravo!”
