About The Royal Oak
The Royal Oak is a family-run pub on Ivetsey Bank Rd in Bishops Wood, near Stafford. It operates as a free house, so the bar pours cask ales and ciders. A weekly fish & chip night gives regulars a hot meal, and a pizza wagon visits at the end of each month. Locals drink at the bar, and the pub works as a country local. Dogs are welcome, which suits walkers and owners who want to bring their pets along for a drink.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly staff and owners, along with a local, welcoming atmosphere at what several call a proper country pub or a great little drinking pub. The beer draws the next most praise, with one reviewer describing a fantastic pint of HPA and another a fine selection of quality beers and ciders from a Free House. Reviewers describe drinks as reasonably priced. One mentions a Friday fish and chip night and a pizza wagon at the end of the month, and another calls the cheaper meals tasty, though accounts of food conflict, with some saying the pub serves none. The main criticism comes from one visitor who found the place run down, with very bright lighting that felt stark and uninviting, and a cask Wainwright that was cloudy and tasted awful, so they left without returning it. Another notes cupboards with wiring on show in the room behind the bar. The kitchen was shut for refurbishment on that visit, and a regular describes the team and locals as very friendly.

“Wonderful couple running the pub Ashley & Sav 👍 It’s a lovely place to drink. Don’t be put off by them not doing food. Because every Friday they do a Fish & Chip night and end of the month they bring in pizza wagon with the most delicious Pizzas. Go and have a pint or wine and you will enjoy 👍👌”
