About Room For Dessert®️

Room For Dessert is a dessert restaurant at 184 Hatfield Rd in St Albans, with a menu that runs from baked and waffled desserts to frozen ones. The Dubai kunafa cookie dough comes out warm, and the Dubai kunafa waffle sticks sit alongside crepes, gelato and ice cream rolls, so one table can order hot and cold desserts together. Crepes are made in Oreo and Lotus Biscoff versions, and the same two flavours appear across other desserts on the menu. Milkshakes and mojitos give the table something to drink with them. The team keeps tables and eating areas cleaned between sittings.

Customer Review Summary

Waffles come up most, from Dubai Kunafa Waffle Sticks filled with pistachio kunafa to a strawberry and milk chocolate waffle with vanilla ice cream, plus Oreo and Lotus Biscoff versions. Close behind are the cookie dough, including the Dubai Kunafa Cookie Dough served warm, and the ice cream, from Gulab Jamun Ice Cream to ice cream rolls and gelato. Crepes, baklava, milk cake, milkshakes and lychee and watermelon mojitos also get mentions. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, and one reviewer says they explained the menu and made recommendations. The recurring complaint is slow, dismissive service. One diner waited a long time for two scoops of gelato and was told only that the place was busy, with no apology. Another waited for half a slice of milk cake that arrived partly frozen. Several still plan to return, and one parent describes staff bringing candles for the birthday girl at a group sitting.

“They always go above and beyond everytime! This is the second time I've done a group sitting at Room for Desert for my daughters birthday. The staff always go above and beyond and are so helpful and friendly. Candles for the birthday girl made it so sweet. Honestly they cannot do enough for their customers.... the food and drinks are also DELICIOUS!”

“Unfortunately, it took around 10 minutes to be served what was only half a slice of cake. Other milk cake shops typically serve much larger portions in less time, so this was quite disappointing. To make matters worse, part of the cake was still frozen when it was served, which significantly affected the overall experience. I had expected much better in terms of both quality and service.”

“Been here before and never had an issue. Ordered two scoops of ice cream and it took over 30 minutes to arrive. I know places get busy, but if the most basic order at a dessert parlour are running that far behind, let me know before I order so I can choose if I want to wait that long or go somewhere else. I politely mentioned the wait to the lady behind the counter after my food had arrived, just to see some acknowledgment of the absurdity of waiting 30 minutes for two balls of gelato. I was told “Your order is there now” and “You can see it’s busy,” without any apology. I have had better customer service here in the past from other staff, but on this occasion it was entirely dismissive. Gelato was good, but would’ve tasted better within half an hour of ordering it. Be careful of this place during busy times. I’d hate to imagine how long you’ll wait for a more complex dessert.”

“Yummy waffle with strawberries and milk chocolate accompanied by vanilla ice cream. Tasty baclava. This was our first visit with my old friend, and we are looking to return to try something else from the menu. Very nice service and affordable prices. Great place for families!”

“Amazing desserts and great service! The ice cream rolls were a highlight, but the milk cake, milkshake, and cookie dough were all delicious. Definitely my new go-to spot.”
