  “Just been to Fishy Plaice in St Albans and I can’t lie, top tier experience. Customer service was proper genuine – you can tell they actually care about people, not just serving food. Got looked after from the moment I walked in, good energy all round. yeahhh, different level. Fresh, crispy, proper portions – everything you want from fish & chips done right. Definitely one of the best spots in St Albans, I’ll 100% be back.”

  “Absolutely loved it! Not my first time here. I’m a big fish & chips lover, and this place always makes me happy. Crispy fish, proper chips, cosy vibe. One of my top choices in St Albans, and I’ll definitely come back whenever I’m craving fish & chips. Only small wish….it would be even better with a bit more staff and some extra heating during the cold winter months. But overall, still a favourite!”

  “Fishy Plaice never disappoints! The fish is always fresh, perfectly battered. The chips are crispy on the outside and fluffy inside—just the way they should be. The portions are generous, and everything tastes homemade with care. Staff are warm, friendly, and efficient, making the whole experience feel welcoming and relaxed. It’s easily one of the best fish and chip spots around. Highly recommended if you’re craving a proper chippy!”

  “Came all the way from London for this place due to hearing so many great things. I have to say it was worth the drive really good food and really good customer service. Will be taking the 30 min trip now and then. Would 100% recommend seating available as well”

  “Met my sister here for lunch as it’s one of the few chippys to have tables and the reviews were really good. Very friendly greeting on a Wednesday lunchtime. Had to wait while sis found the place, so ordered calamari, denied - “it’s finished”. A 330ml London Pride is £6.50 so no. Ordered a sad-looking onion rings instead. Ordered 2 medium cod & chips and mushy peas. When food came we were told that they were large for the same price; great. I honestly think they were trying to do us a favour. Except they were very thin and dry. Batter not bad. Chips a bit oily but OK. Good mushy peas. Worn out Heinz bottle but not Heinz ketchup. Not good. The spell broke and we realised we were probably in a Tourist Trap. We told the friendly server who asked how things were, then just kind of withdrew. Total meal was almost £50 with three soft drinks. Very pleasant staff but not good food. Maybe we came on a bad day? Very disappointed.”

  “Yesterday was National Fish and Chip day so we popped to Fishy Plaice to celebrate with them. We had a great welcome, and fantastic hot, delicious fish and chips, mushy peas and tea for two. The regular portion was plenty for us. Great experience and a very good price.”

  “Fish and chips as it should be. They had a lunch special with a smaller piece of cod. Perfect as it isn't as overwhelming. Light battered fish and crispy chips. Staff are chirpy and happy and service with a smile. Worth visiting again.”
