Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply, but most return for the fish and chips, with the curry sauce singled out as the best one reviewer has had from a chippy. Close behind are the Chinese dishes, including chicken balls, Singapore fried rice, special fried rice and vegetable stir fry, plus salt and pepper fried chips. Several describe quick, friendly service, generous portions and good value, and one says the shop caters well for food intolerance. A long-time customer says the quality has not changed in over twenty years. Three reviewers who had been regulars for years report a recent decline. They describe chips that were hard and stale, undercooked chips tasting of old oil, dry sausages, egg fried rice that was dry and not cooked properly, soggy spring rolls and watery chicken curry. One says they were assured the chips were fresh before finding them stale, and another says prices have risen while standards fell. One reviewer calls parking awkward. A reviewer who ordered a large feast says it came out quickly despite many walk-in customers.

“We ordered a large feast and although there were many walk in customers, it appears the food was cooked quite quickly. I will be returning for the "box meals" for less than £10!!”

“Second best fish and chips in St Albans, but the best place has been closed for months, so I guess that makes this place the best. Parking Awkward, but everything else is great.”

“Brilliant takeaway with both Chinese; and Fish and Chips options. My favourite Chinese food in St Albans and great fish and chips too. Friendly, quick and tasty! I particularly like the chicken balls, Singapore fried rice and salt and pepper fried chips!”

“Been using wongs for years but tonight was very disappointed. The chips were undercooked & tasted of old oil, spring rolls soggy & chicken curry watery, Never had a bad meal before from wongs but tonight’s experience has really put me off using them again now, Even my children didn’t eat the chips so i no they were bad!”

“Unfortunately having to give Wongs a poor review following my last visit. Prior to ordering I asked if the chips were fresh and was told they were. I trusted what I was told as the lady sounded so reassuring. As soon as I ate the first chip I quickly knew I had been lied to. The chips were extremely hard and tasted stale. This is very disappointing and poor customer service. I was the only one in the shop at the time and it would not have caused them any hassle to throw away the stale chips and serve me fresh ones. I will rather go elsewhere and give my money to an honest chip shop than return to Wongs again!”
