Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the fish and the views over the Solent, with the sea bream fillet, beer battered cod and scampi and chips named alongside a local crab linguine. Close behind come the desserts, including a dark chocolate cremeux, and a beef brisket that reviewers describe as juicy and easy to pull apart, with creamy mash. Pizzas get praise as hot takeaway but one reviewer found the pizza underwhelming. Several mention friendly, attentive service, live music, and a good choice of local ales, cocktails and wines. One reviewer suggests booking first. The main complaint comes from one lunchtime visit where the menu was limited to pizza and staff refused a side of olives to nibble on, which the reviewer described as abrupt and a little miserable. Others call the food expensive but matched by quality. One reviewer who has eaten there for five years says it never disappoints, and another celebrated a wedding anniversary at an upstairs table watching liners pass by.

“Excellent reservation system which allows changes to be made effortlessly. Lovely location at Seaview looking out to two of the Napolean era forts to thawrt attacks. Very popular venue with a downstairs pub restaurant and an upstairs restaurant. Menu selection is good with some very nice quirks. Food was excellent. Great selection of drinks, cocktails and wines plus zero alcohol beverages. Worth a visit. Book first.”

“Lunchtime all menus were all out and no notice about it being restricted, went to order and was told abruptly it was just pizza, a little disappointed I asked if I could get some olives to nibble on while we chose our pizza, “no” was the response, “it’s just pizza” while I understand that to try and deviate from the menu wasn’t possible olives require no preparation or any chef training to portion up, anyway I ordered our pizzas, worth noting “freshly made” I was asked if there was “anything else” I said olives ? He said no again, weirdly my freshly made pizza had olives on it lol 😂 then for my drink I went with a cocktail, vodka martini with an olive!! Which they had to go and get from the kitchen, when we went outside we sat with some other people who were also refused them and were miffed, we actually got chatting because the lady commented I had an olive in my drink and she wanted some and was told she had to wait until 5, this was 4:35pm. Not the crime of the century I appreciate but at aprox £5 a portion that’s a big loss over a year for the owners by the staff for absolutely no reason. Fantastic view, lovely layout and interior, great cocktails. Pizza underwhelming, staff a little miserable on this occasion Having said that we’ve been before and they were lovely.”

“We sat upstairs with an incredible view across the Solent watching the liners pass by. Varied and interesting menu, excellent fish and a jaw droppingly delicious dessert, served by attentive, friendly staff. Genuinely couldn't better it.”

“Great food. Excellent service . Beautiful views. Everyone, from 12 to 86, thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Everything was freshly cooked. A varied menu to cater for all tastes.”

“Food was great! Ordered the beer battered cod, local crab linguine and pork scratching. Very flavourful to both, cod was good fish to batter ratio, very crispy, fish was well seasoned. Linguine was creamy, crab tasted fresh. Pork scratching didn't feel oily or heavy, lightly salty. Staff and servers were very friendly, service was fast.”
