Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, described as flaky with crisp batter and plentiful, and often eaten at an upstairs window table overlooking the harbour entrance, where ferries and boats come and go. Close behind are the burger, cooked slightly pink and juicy, the mustard glazed pork loin, the trout rillette starter, and desserts such as the treacle tart and toffee and pecan frozen cheesecake. Servers are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, with a bit of banter, and one diner with a nut allergy felt well catered for. Complaints are scattered but specific. A party of 11 found the kitchen off on one visit, with poor steak cuts, overdone battered fish and low temperatures. A Sunday roast diner missed cauliflower cheese and found the potatoes tasted odd, and another thought the prosecco was pricey against shop prices. Others mention a crowded, zoo-like bar while waiting for a table, a large group making conversation harder, and one diner feeling a little sea sick at the window seat while still finding the view beautiful.

“We were greeted by Barry, who was incredibly accommodating. We had a drink outside while he organised a table, and he went the extra mile to find us a window seat so we could enjoy the view and make the occasion that little bit more special. We were then looked after by Emma and Jamie, who were both super friendly, knowledgeable about the wine, and great company throughout. The food was fantastic, and the service from everyone was excellent, unfortunately, I didn’t catch the name of our other server, but he was brilliant too. A really lovely experience and somewhere I’d highly recommend.”

“Lovely meal today at The Still and West. We had a window seat and beautiful view overlooking the water and entrance/exit watching all the ships coming and going. Even though we’re local, we still love seeing all the interesting life on the water here. We had a lovely time and our meal was delicious; we both had fish and chips which were plentiful and really nice and then the toffee and pecan frozen cheesecake for dessert. To drink, I had a rose and my Mum had an alcohol free Hugo Spritz. Our server was Alana and she was brilliant throughout - really efficient, attentive and friendly. It was a nice noise level for the majority of our time there but then a large group arrived making it harder to talk and hear. Highly recommend whether you’re local or visiting”

“Early booking upstairs for a pre ferry supper, delicious Fish &Chips - friendly service and a great view. Bar was like a zoo while waited to be seated upstairs, a Portsmouth Friday 😉Will return for a more leisurely visit next time!”

“I've been wanting to try The Still for a while, so made an impromptu booking for Bank Holiday weekend and tir in a few things we missed whilst on holiday. Booking online was easy, just pick your date and time and where you wanted to eat - bar or restaurant. We opted for the restaurant. On arrival we checked in, and were shown to our table upstairs in the restaurant. The views were brilliant, overlooking the harbour entrance with plenty of boats and ferries to watch coming in and out. Service was really good with a bottle of water bought to the table then drinks order taken. These arrived promptly and after a few minutes of deliberating over the menu we all put our orders in. After a short wait the food was bought out and we tucked in. 2 lots of fish and chips and two burgers (I added bacon to mine), all cooked to perfection. The fish was flaky and batter crispy (I was advised by my 12 year old!) and the burger done just right (slightly pink in the middle and juicy 😋). After a quick clear up, dessert menus arrived, and great to see a small pudding and hot drink combo, something that we'd not seen before, on the menu. Two of these chosen, a chocolate brownie sundae for the boy and possibly the nicest treacle tart I've ever had for me! As far as service went, the staff were brilliant, attentive and went about their jobs professionally with a little bit of banter thrown in. Very vibey atmosphere made this a great lunch out and will definitely be back!”
