Customer Review Summary
Steak and ale pie is the dish reviewers raise most, described as packed with flavour and meat by one diner and the best they have ever had by another. A chicken and ham pie and an apple and caramel pie also draw praise. Close behind are the mac and cheese, a famous fish pie with loads of GF options, a lamb burger cooked perfectly, calamari and a veggie chilli. The sea views from the top of Culver Down are praised repeatedly, and several mention walking up to the pub, with a pint at the end or a stroll to the cliff edge afterwards. Several suggest booking a table, since it is popular with locals. The clearest complaint is a mushroom and stilton bruschetta that arrived as garlic bread on a dinner plate with a mushroom soup-like liquid poured over it. One diner also did not enjoy the bread pudding. One family with a toddler and a dog arrived without a booking on a busy night, and the bartender found them a table very quickly.

“After a lovely walk to the Monument, we definitely needed a reward when we got to the top...a nice cool pint to quench our thirst. Lovely pub at the top. The food smelt glorious but we'd booked somewhere to eat later that evening.”

“Lovely pub, food was lovely my calamari was just right , steak and ale pie was packed with flavour and meat . My hubby had mac&cheese and he said it tasted yummy . Dessert was lovely too, though I stuck to ice cream hubby had the bread pudding . But sadly wasn’t for him . It was beautiful, we went for dinner so couldn’t see anything but drive up was amazing x Humphrey made the night , as well as the landlady and landlord , barmaid x thank you to you all x”

“After decades and numerous visits to the IOW, I finally got to have a meal here and we weren't disappointed. Food was excellent and you certainly enjoyed a stunning view on a clear day where the visibility was excellent. So, whilst having my Mac Cheese, I could clearly see Brighton (almost 50 miles away) in one direction and long, long way out into the channel in another. So a very enjoyable visit and would definitely return. Booking recommended during busy times.”

“Amazing location looking off the cliffs at culver down. Best steak and ale pie we've ever had! Was definitely worth sitting in the sea breeze waiting for. Make sure to book in advance for a table inside. Afterwards definitely take a walk down to the cliff edge and back”
