About House of Habesha

House of Habesha is an Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurant at Kargo MKT in Salford, where the kitchen puts Ethiopian tacos filled with chicken, beef or lamb on the same menu as traditional platters. The platters come with injera flatbread, and the Platter for 2 is sized for a pair, while a Full Platter, also called the "full house", covers a bigger order. A vegetarian version of the platter is available, and a vegan wrap and chips combo gives plant-based eaters a second option. Burgers and loaded fries, including a grilled chicken version and a lamb one, round out the menu for those who want something outside the East African dishes. The restaurant runs on a walk-in basis.

Customer Review Summary

Platters anchor most of the praise. Reviewers describe the full house and a platter for two as generous and tasty, including a vegetarian version and fluffy injera bread. Close behind are the tacos filled with chicken, beef and lamb, which one diner expected not to fill them up but found satisfying, and the loaded fries, where a grilled chicken version had just a tiny hint of spice. A vegan wrap and chips combo also earns praise, and one reviewer calls a very spicy dish the star of the meal. The complaints are specific. One diner found the full platter lacking flavour beyond a strong sourness from the injera and described staff who seemed unwilling to take another order. Another waited far longer for a small, bland burger than their partner did for a meal next door, and two reviewers felt the portions were small for the price. Others describe quick, welcoming service, and one server brought out free snacks.

“Personally, I had the Ethiopian tacos. 3 tacos, chicken, beef and lamb. I thought beforehand that it wouldn’t fill me up but I have been proven wrong. They are a good option if you want a range of flavours and textures. Definitely recommend”

“Delicious food. Made quickly. Good service. I got the grilled chicken loaded fries and there was just a tiny hint of spice, which was perfect. Chicken was cooked well.”

“Absolutely loved the vegan wrap and chips combo I got. Service was lovely, staff were so helpful in answering questions. I can’t wait to come back next time I’m in Salford Quays!”

“I’ve been here a couple of times now. The first visit was pleasant with the lamb and injera tasty although portion sizes were on the small side for the price. During my most recent visit in May 2026 I was sorely disappointed. The staff clearly didn’t want to be there on a Saturday afternoon and looked dismayed to have to take another order. The Full Platter, although looked pretty and well presented, lacked any sort of flavour or depth, except for sourness from the fermented injera flatbread. A lot more sour than it should have been. I wouldn’t visit again.”

“Beautiful food every time. House of Habesha never misses, the flavours are rich, the portions generous, and the service is always genuinely welcoming. One of Salford’s standout spots for consistently great Ethiopian and Eritrean dishes.”
