Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the huge portions, whether a Sunday roast, a roast pork lunch with roast potatoes, cabbage and cauliflower cheese, a big steak meal, or a ploughman's that came with almost half a block of cheddar. Several call the lunches excellent value for money. Close behind is the welcome, with the staff described repeatedly as friendly and dogs made to feel welcome. Reviewers also praise the cask ale and the choice of beers, and one mentions the large back garden and a monthly open mic on the third Monday that one regular has attended for ten years. The menu runs from sandwiches to steak, and one reviewer likes that it is not overwhelming. The few criticisms are minor: one found the real ale a little warmer than preferred, possibly because of a heatwave, and another noted the parking opposite was muddy after heavy rain. One diner, after a first visit, said they would definitely be returning.

“A really big steak meal was served, too much for me, fantastic food. Real ale was a little warmer than I would have liked (maybe down to heatwave) but you can tell it's looked after. Good food, good drinks, great staff. Try it.”

“This was my first visit to the Rose & Crown Clayhill, and everything was excellent, wonderful atmosphere, service, and food, and I couldn't fault a single thing. The menu selection is not overwhelming, which is something I personally prefer, but I am sure there will be something to suit nearly everyone's taste. The owner is a lovely lady who has owned the establishment for over 20 years and has surrounded herself with proficient, friendly staff. Everything is clean and hygienic, well-maintained, and really has a very good atmosphere. Parking is available opposite, though it was a little muddy, as to be expected given the torrential rain over the last few months. I thought the prices were very reasonable, the portion size was very generous, and, as mentioned earlier, the food was excellent. I have attached some pictures to show how wonderful the atmosphere is. I was busy taking pictures of the inside and forgot to take some of the actual food. My apologies for that. I will update this review in the future and include pictures of the food, as I will definitely be returning.”
