About The Globe Inn Marsh Rye
The Globe Inn Marsh Rye is a pub on Military Rd in Rye, set in a clapperboard building that opened in 2013 where the Military Canal meets the River Rother. The kitchen serves lamb as a recurring main, including Romney Lamb, and offers small plates for sharing, with the fish cake among them. Breakfast is also served, with one dish brought out in the pan and local produce on the plate. Dogs are welcome at breakfast, so walkers with a pet can start the day here. Beers on tap and a wine list sit alongside the food. Puddings include banoffee pie as an alternative to sticky toffee pudding and fruit crumble. Walk-ins without a booking are seated. The pub has no rooms of its own, but the team will arrange a place to stay nearby on request.

Customer Review Summary
Lamb is the dish reviewers return to most, with the Romney lamb, the salt marsh lamb and the lamb rump all praised as tender and cooked well, and one calling the lamb on greens sensational. Close behind are the small plates, including squid and prawns, scallops, chicken schnitzel and the fishcake, plus the banoffee pie and a breakfast served in the pan with local produce. Reviewers describe friendly, welcoming staff, a colourful, fun pub, a good beer and wine selection, and a beer garden for eating outside. Dogs are made to feel at home. The main criticism is value in one review, where a seafood platter of a little salmon, two prawns and mackerel pate felt overpriced, though the steaks and lamb were decent. Another reviewer found the hummus unremarkable, and one noted an eye roll from bar staff over a missing booking. One diner who arrived around 7pm without a reservation found seats but got the last squid dish.

“Great food and brilliant service by our waitress. Loved the fishcake and the banoffee pie. Only (very) slightly marred by the lady behind the bar who rolled her eyes when we said we hadn't booked. Perhaps she forgot that us customers actually pay her wages 😄 Other than that ... absolutely splendid”

“The pub itself is nice, with a varied selection of drinks. The menu itself is also very varied, however I probably wouldn’t come back for the food. We ordered a sea food platter which cost £30 and consisted of small bit of salmon, two prawns and mackerel pate, which I think is very overpriced for what it was. The steaks we ordered were decent, so was the lamb. All in all, the staff were nice but I think the food needs some reviewing, especially for those prices.”

“Service was good. Staff were knowledgeable about the food. I had two small plates: Squid & Prawns. They were both really tasty. Partner had fish cake, which looked lovely on its bed of veg. Puds offering were a pleasant change from the usual sticky toffee pud & fruit crumble. We didn’t make a reservation, got there about 7pm. Seats available but I had the last squid dish, so get there early!”

“The venue, the staff, the vibe were all amazing. Especially the service received from Marta, she was very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend the Salt Marsh Lamb, absolutely amazing and the best lamb I’ve ever eaten! Highly recommend!”

“The food here was really good and great friendly service as well. Shout out to Olivia for making our visit memorable. We got the lamb rump which was cooked beautifully. It was an excellent cut of meat and cooked really well - lovely pink and tender. The peas were a little one note although delicious. We also got the beetroot salad which had a nice dressing. The walnuts were a nice touch. Good portion sizes as well. Good beers on tap selection. And the decor was really fun, great atmosphere.”

“A pretty little clapperboard pub on the outskirts of the historic yet happening town of Rye where the Miltary Canal meets the River Rother, The Globe Inn Marsh has been the talk of Rye since it opened in 2013, with its “sheep-shack chic” interiors and warm Ramblinns hospitality. We don’t have rooms but we’ve lots of friends who do. Just ask and we’ll make arrangements for you.”
