Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the wide-ranging menu, with the dirty burgers and a piri piri chicken breast burger described as tender and full of flavour. Close behind are the half roast chicken, cottage pie, pork belly, tandoori chicken bar snacks, a steak cooked as it should be, and a pork and fennel ravioli, with several noting generous portions and a well priced menu. Reviewers who knew the pub before its change of hands say the refurbishment has made it clean, welcoming and relaxing. The terraced area, the garden with its waterfall and stream, and the dog friendliness also draw comment. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful. One group with a vegan diner who reacts severely to gluten describes the chef adapting dishes and the team searching their stock for vegan wine, and others mention vegetarian and kids options. The only critique comes from one local, who would like a salad option, tender stem with the venison casserole and a little more custard with dessert. One reviewer describes a table of 23 colleagues whose meals all came out together.

“The best UK country pub dining experience! One of our group suffers severe immune reaction to gluten and follows a vegan lifestyle. We are local and called in a couple of days before our booking. The chef offered options adapted from the menu and really went the extra mile offering to buy in specially if there was a particular dish we wanted. We were made so welcome by all the team, as if nothing was too much trouble. On the day we asked if they had vegan wine. The team searched their stock and had several options, also promising to review their stock and ensure vegans are well catered for in future. This has never happened anywhere before. Often we have to search through detailed ingredient lists on special allergen menues and getting a flat no to many vegan questions which us feel less than welcome. Not so at The Horns Pub, Slitting Mill. We all had a starter and a main, all beautifully cooked and presented, staff even took a picture of us for me. Such a lovely place, people, atmosphere and food. Going back soon for sure. Thank you for making our evening super special.”

“The Horns Inn in Slitting Mill, Rugeley is such a lovely find — a proper countryside pub with its own waterfall and stream running through the garden. No strenuous hiking needed; you can sit, relax, listen to the water, and enjoy something to eat or drink. Perfect for days when you want nature but need to take it slow. 🚶♀️💨”

“This was an lovely establishment with a very inviting energy, the staff were very helpful providing me with information on the local area in order to achieve a purpose. I decided to dine at the venue and indulged in a piri piri chicken breast burger that had plenty of flavour as well as it being tender. Overall a lovely experience, would be perfect for peak summer as it is situated on a public footpath.”
