Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is the main draw, with the beef and all the trimmings singled out as delicious, and one diner calling it the best Sunday lunch in a long time. Close behind are the sea bass, salmon fillet, breaded brie and camembert starters, and a prawn cocktail, along with a three course lunch deal that one couple says was not reduced in quality or quantity. Reviewers also praise the friendly, attentive staff and a busy but lively dining room, though one dislikes the dance music there. The mixed grill draws mixed comments: one calls the sausage thin and the chicken pieces tiny, and another had a steak that came out medium instead of rare. The sharpest complaint describes a Sunday roast with a small portion, bland turkey, hard roast potatoes and a sticky table, and that diner skipped dessert and asked for the bill. Another notes a long wait for food. One reviewer says a steak was cooked nicely rare, and a diner who ordered the halloumi burger praised its thick slab and chilli sauce.

“Partner took me for a 3course lunch date. We enjoyed The Nelson so much. Thought the 3course deal would either be reduced in quality or quantity and it was NOT compromised in any way. Beautiful food and great ambiance. This is our place ❤️”

“Great food, although a little slow,I appreciate they may have been busy but 45 minutes wait was a little excessive in my view.”

“A regular haunt of mine 50 years ago, it was nice to see the place again and only living six miles away, it just shows how you lose touch with places. We had an excellent family meal, well cooked and not too expensive however it did get a little busy in the restaurant, just goes to show it’s popular I suppose. Attentive young staff serving the food, it was an enjoyable visit after a long time away.”

“Went to The Nelson for Sunday lunch, I must say this was the best Sunday lunch we've had out in a long time. 3 of us had the Beef, this was so delicious and came with all the trimmings, there is also the main menu which two of our party ordered from. The Salmon fillet was delicious and so was the Mixed grill, although the steak was asked to be cooked rare and came out more medium. This was the only negative so we didn't say anything. The staff were very attentive. The Cauliflower cheese was delicious as was the Caramel meringue dessert. Would definitely recommend.”
