Quick info
About The Cock Inn at Sarratt
The Cock Inn at Sarratt is a 17th-century country pub on Church Ln in Rickmansworth, with dark wood beams and an open fire in the main room. A fireside seating area sits next to the hearth. At the back, a large garden with a tipi looks over the valley. The kitchen runs separate main and lunch menus, with small plates and specials, and the Sunday roast comes with a choice of beef, pork or lamb, plus cauliflower cheese and gravy. Local ales are on offer, and the team gives tastes of the beer before you choose. A private dining room takes groups, and dogs are welcome. The pub works as a stop-off point for Chess Valley walks and hikes, and a car park sits right beside it.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the Sunday roast, describing a very generous portion with good gravy, proper cauliflower cheese and herby potatoes, with beef, pork and lamb all praised. Close behind is the beer, with plenty of ales and staff who let customers taste before choosing. The lunch menu gets mentions too, including a thick parsnip soup, fish and chips with a pot of crushed peas, and a lamb shank, while the chef changed some sides on request. The big garden with valley views and the cosy fireside seating draw repeated praise, and walkers on Chess Valley hikes call it a good stop. Staff are consistently described as friendly. The caveats are small. One reviewer found the beef a little too well done, another said service was a little slow, and one felt rushed when soup and fish and chips arrived together. One reviewer also mentions the toilet smelling potently of countryside.

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic pub with a brilliant atmosphere! I absolutely love this place. The building itself is beautiful, old, and full of historic character. It has a great, authentic vibe that makes you want to stay for hours. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, providing excellent service. On top of that, there is a fantastic beer garden in the back—perfect for relaxing with a cold drink. Highly recommended if you are looking for a proper pub experience”

“What a great pub! The staff was so friendly and I really appreciated being able to taste the beer before purchasing. We are from Australia so had no recent experience of English ales. Lovely beer garden which is clearly dog friendly.”

“First visit, lovely cozy pub for lunch. Good food, pleasant servers, service a little slow but we were chatting anyway (5 ladies lunch meet up). Specials on the menu were varied, small plates are good if you have a small appetite. Chef was happy to change some of the sides for others .. I had lamb shank which was very nice, plenty of meat, sides were good too. We will return.”
