About The Coach & Horses

The Coach & Horses is a pub in Rickmansworth at 22 High St, on a site that dates back beyond 1722 and originally belonged to Salters brewery. That history gives the building its age, and the old pub has quirky decor inside. The kitchen works from a seasonal menu, with roast dinners and Sunday lunch on offer alongside nachos. At the bar, cask beers sit next to keg lines, Guinness, cider and lager. The pub opens daily. Dogs are welcome, and free treats are kept on the bar for them.

Customer Review Summary

Food draws the most praise, with reviewers calling it fantastic, delicious and good value, and singling out the nachos, the roast dinners and a spicy bloody Mary. One family with picky eaters and vegans says every dish arrived at the same time in ample portions, and another likes the mix and match kids meals. Close behind is the beer, with one visitor counting eight cask beers and ten keg lines. Others mention the lovely beer garden, the quirky decor and a warm, no fuss local feel. Dogs get free treats on the bar. Service is mostly described as friendly and helpful, though one diner called it a mess on a quiet Monday. A charcuterie board missing its piccalilli took a long time, the mains landed five minutes after it, nobody checked back, and they left with takeaway boxes. Another reviewer found the roast potatoes the weak point of an otherwise good roast, and after that complaint the manager did not charge for one of the meals.

“Enjoyed a sunday lunch with family for fathers day. Was an enjoyable visit. Food was delicious, service was good and it was reasonably priced. May have found our new favourite local pub.”

“We celebrated our birthday's at the Coach and Horses mid week on a Wednesday. We had a fantastic family meal in the pub followed by a surprise party for my daughter's 18th. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The food was great for us all - we have picky eaters, fancy eaters and a couple of vegans thrown in for good measure. The food choices were great, portion sizes ample and all served at the same time. The staff were all so helpful and friendly and the pub itself is quintessentially British. Thanks to all the staff and the head chef/owner who made our birthday really special. We will be recommending you to everyone. Top marks!”

“First and last time here, unfortunately. The reviews encouraged us to give it a try, but we must have caught them on an off day. Service and timing were a mess. Despite it being a quiet Monday, our starter (a charcuterie board missing piccalilli) took 35 minutes to arrive - timestamped by Apple Pay notification. Then, just five minutes into eating it, our mains were brought out, leaving us feeling rushed. There was also no check back on the food. In the end, we simply weren’t enjoying ourselves, so asked for takeaway boxes to leave. Even that took a while. £58 - not including the tip we gave when ordering and money for drinks - for a sharing starter, two mains and a side for two was unfortunately not money well spent, and sadly we won’t be returning.”

“Booked some space in the garden for the day after my wedding. The food is FAB, and the spicy bloody Mary was 10/10. Would recommend”

“What a lovely pub. Found it by chance on our way back to Rickmansworth after a day out for a walk in the Chess Valley, and we needed a pit stop and refreshments. A great array of beers - I counted 8 cask beers, 10 keg beer lines, on top of the Guinness, cider and 4 lager options. We didn't try the food but what we saw coming out looked very good, and the menus looked pretty extensive. The icing on the cake is that they are very dog friendly, with free treats on the bar. Will definitely be back.”
