  “Beautiful setting, solid kitchen… completely let down by front-of-house who couldn’t care less Went with my wife and a friend after seeing a few decent write-ups. The location itself is genuinely lovely – proper countryside pub vibes. That’s where the good news ends. We stood around for ages waiting to be acknowledged. Eventually a waitress wandered over, chewing gum, looking like she’d rather be anywhere else. Showed us to a table and then promptly disappeared to lean on the bar doing absolutely nothing for another ten minutes. The other waiter had to actually tell her to come and take a drinks order. Not a great start. Drinks arrived fine. Then the food order. My wife asked the usual reasonable question about swapping the fish in the fish & chips for battered halloumi (something every other pub in the country manages without breaking a sweat). Straight “no”. Then she claimed all the fish arrives pre-battered. Didn’t even bother checking with the kitchen. Just decided that was the story. We ordered starters and mains. I asked for the vegetable wellington with an extra boat of vegetable gravy – “absolutely fine”. She wrote nothing down, then tried to recite the order back and completely blanked on half of it. We corrected her, reconfirmed the gravy, and clearly said we did not want starters and mains together. She asked us that for some reason. We said no. Food arrived quickly… too quickly. Starters hit the table and about sixty seconds later the mains were plonked down next to them. We reminded her we’d specifically asked for them separate. She blanked us completely, dropped the plates and walked off. My “vegetable wellington” was actually a Mediterranean tart. Mash and veg were stone cold. No gravy anywhere. When I asked, she told me they don’t do vegetable gravy but she could “give me ketchup”. Classy. The fish, by the way, was excellent – and clearly battered fresh to order. Which made the earlier lie even more pointless. As we were leaving, the other (actually competent) waiter confirmed it is battered in-house. Apart from the temperature, the wrong dish, the missing sauce and the fact it all arrived at once, the food itself was decent. The chicken wings and blue cheese mushrooms were properly good. Shame the service was so spectacularly indifferent. She never once came back to check if anything was alright. Just stood behind the bar chewing gum and drinking coffee and scrolling on her phone while we finished and had to go up to pay ourselves. I’ve seen a few other recent reviews mentioning the same service issues. The kitchen is clearly putting the effort in. The front of house, at least on our visit, seems to have zero interest in doing the same. Bit of a waste of a nice spot.”

  “Absolutely top-tier spot! If you’re looking for a genuine countryside vibe with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, this is a must-visit. The service was spot on—super friendly and attentive. As for the food? Simply world-class. Everything felt fresh and authentic. Highly recommend if you want to eat well and truly relax. 10/10!”

  “Have been here many times as it’s a lovely setting for a walk and some food however when visiting today (bank holiday Monday) there was a young waitress who was really quite rude, she clearly did not want to be there and anything seemed a huge task for her. When ordering drinks at the bar she huffed at us then when clearing the table after food she insisted we pass every item to her hand instead of her just walking and getting things- is that not what you’re paid for? It made us quite uncomfortable… It’s a shame as the other members of staff (young/male) were very friendly and welcoming. Just a tip.. Maybe don’t work in hospitality if you hate people..!! Food nice but on the pricey side and parking can be a bit of an issue.”

  “Great service and friendly staff, dogs allowed, good food. If it weren’t for the dry chicken breast in the pasta bake, I wouldn’t have given it 5 stars. You should get the chips, been a long time since I had some this good. Fish is crispy and isn’t greasy”

  “This is a lovely small pub, very friendly and has a great selection of beers. The food was lovely, Very generous portions. Good value. Dogs are welcome. Parking area is a bit small. Might be worth booking a table .”

  “We had a lovely Sunday lunch, Ruby the waitress was hands on and friendly, few hiccups but nothing to major, considering how busy the pub was. Starter and mains were delish. We will be returning again. The magician was a great little treat. Highly recommend”

  “Visited for a friends BIG Birthday and was given one of the outdoor huts - it was so lovely overlooking the common and they had even put balloons in for us. The staff were super attentive and the food was delicious, perfect sized portions too!! We also had a few celebratory cocktails - HIGHLY recommend a visit *****”
