About The Blue Lion Inn Cwm

The Blue Lion Inn Cwm is a pub in Rhyl on Cwm Dyserth, a 17th-century countryside inn where the hillside setting opens onto views of the Vale of Clwyd, the Irish Sea and Snowdonia. Visitors can take in the scenery from the grounds while deciding what to eat. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast, with roast lamb and mixed meats on the plate, alongside a steak and ale pie and a mixed grill. A bread board is sized to share between two, which suits a table that wants to start with something communal. Tables are walk-in only.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often return to the Sunday roast, with one calling it the best tasting dinner they have had and another picking out the roast lamb and the mixed meats plate, while the mixed grill is described as huge. Close behind are the steak and ale pie, the 10oz gammon steak and a bread board that one pair found easily enough for two, with generous desserts also mentioned. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and several praise the views over the valley and hills and the outdoor seating. Dogs are welcomed, and one party in a wheelchair was moved to a more suitable table. The main criticism comes from one detailed review: the king prawns had over crispy batter and hard prawns, the apple crumble topping had hard pieces, and the lemon meringue pie had hard pastry, a rubbery lemon base and meringue that lifted off in one piece. One reviewer found the music a bit wedding-afterparty style, and one suggests booking in advance. The garlic bread ordered as a while you wait plate drew praise as tasty.

“5 stars all around! The food was incredible, but the absolute highlight of our visit was Megan. She was so welcoming from the moment we walked in, you can instantly tell she is just a beautiful soul. Being a mum to a little girl herself, she completely understood my daughter's needs, which made our experience great. Amazing service, amazing food, and a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you, Megan and The Blue Lion team!"”

“Tremendous! Best sunday roast I've had out for a long time. I had roast lamb and partner had mixed meats. Everything on the plate was delicious and we were served at 7pm which was a bonus. Polite staff too. Much recommended.”

“The Blue Lion Inn great looking place inside and out. Waited a while my guests arrived giving me chance to have a drink and a read of the menus nothing jumped out to me the specials were a change. Asked if they had bottled lemonade as I think the tap fizzy drinks are not nice. So I had my half pint of orange juice with bottle ginger beer. Guests arrived meals ordered. 2 starters Golden beer battered King Prawns with a sweet chilli dipping sauce and Chicken Liver Pate with Red onion Chutney white toast and house salad. The batter on the prawns was over crispy and the prawns were hard. Dip was sweet chilli. My son had the pate and managed to get his son to taste he said it was nice and had another little piece. For the mains I had the pate it was tasty but swamped by the toast and house salad. The red onion chutney was good. My son had the Cajun Chicken Sizzler with caramalized onions, fries salad and slaw which he enjoyed. His partner had the Grilled Halloumi flatbread, hummus, house salad and sweet peri peri drizzle which she enjoyed. My grandson had the Chilli con Carnie, melted cheddar, wild rice, tortilla chips, guacamole & sour cream. He said it had a good kick not sure about the wild rice, he got his dad to try some too hot for him. 2 deserts were shared between 3 Crumble of the day which was apple came with the custard. From the specials menu Classic lemon meringue pie. The Crumble on the top had hard pieces in and not able to crunch we agreed. The Lemon meringue pie was the only real let down. The pastry was hard the meringue wasn't nice and lifted off in one go, the lemon base was rubbery and not a lemon bite you would expect. Great service and friendly my son has been before and no doubt when I come back to Wales so will I.”

“Everything was great about this place. The location is just within a little secluded village however was busy. You can tell people don't mind travelling to come here. Delicious food. Menu had everything you expect for pub grub. The staff were great. One of our party was in a wheelchair and I forgot to mention this when I booked the table, but they were very accommodating and allowed us to move to a more wheelchair friendly table. The views are to die for of the Clwydian Mountain Range with plenty of outdoor seating to soak up the sun. Highly recommend.”
