About The Folly Restaurant
The Folly Restaurant is a modern European restaurant on Folly Bridge in Oxford, set beside the River Thames and a short walk from the centre. Dining here extends onto the water. River cruises are paired with dinner, either as a 3-course dinner or as a cruise followed by dinner, and a riverside afternoon tea runs as a cream tea boat trip. Drinks can be pre-ordered for the cruise. Back on shore, the kitchen serves bar tapas and flavoured butters. Private dining domes and a private dining room give groups a space of their own. Two resident ducks live on site.

Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers pair the restaurant with a river cruise, and the afternoon tea and cream tea boat trips draw the warmest praise, with the boat captains and a guide described as funny, informative and knowledgeable. Dinner comes close behind. Diners name the hot honey cabbage, the pork dish, the sirloin, the bar tapas and the various flavoured butters, and the desserts are called sensational. Service is described as quick and friendly, and one server's recommendations and humour made an evening for a couple. Others mention excellent drinks on the riverside outdoor seating, including drinks pre-ordered for the cruise. The main criticism comes from one reviewer who found the starters well presented but not worth it, and the mains high in quality yet flat and lacking flavour. That reviewer called the place overpriced and suggested sticking with the bread plates. Two anniversary diners, one in a warm, cosy private dome, say the staff added a special touch to their dessert.

“Came here for an anniversary dinner and had such a lovely experience! The whole team made us feel super welcome and the food and wine did not disappoint! Highly recommend the pork dish - it was fab.”

“Meh. Didn't live up to expectations and was ultimately a little disapponting. Location wise, you can't go wrong. Over looking the river. A Short walk to Oxford Centre. The restaurant is smart, clean and tidy. The staff patient, attentive and engaging. A good selection of drinks. The starters are the most disappointing - well presented art pieces, but definitely not worth it - stick with the bread plates. The mains are again really well presented, with high quality ingredients, but ultimately flat, lacking real flavour. Desert selection is good and I'm told was acceptable. I know food prices have risen, but I would put this in the overpriced category, probably because of the location.”

“We did the river cruise and had a 3 course dinner. Absolutely no complaints, service was quick and friendly. Food came out really quickly and the flavours were great. Would recommend”

“Peter made our evening at The Folly Restaurant truly divine! His recommendations were absolutely on point, and his humor and personal touch made the entire experience even more enjoyable. The food was outstanding - especially the hot honey cabbage! Sadly, we hardly got any pictures (minus the dessert) because the food was THAT GOOD and we were too busy enjoying every bite. Peter made the experience delightful from start to finish, and ending the evening with a river cruise was the perfect way to top off an already wonderful night. Thank you, The Folly Restaurant, for such a great evening!”
