Customer Review Summary

The popcorn old fashioned is the drink reviewers return to most, with one saying they have not stopped thinking about it and another calling it unique, alongside a boulevardier and off-menu cocktails. Among the food, diners praise a roast chicken, a duck dish with sharp sauce, lamb cutlet with pistachio, langoustine bisque and a wild mushroom and barley dish. Staff are repeatedly called attentive and friendly. The main caveats concern service and sweetness. One party waited over an hour for food without being told of the delay, and another had mains arrive at different times and an empty wine bottle go unchecked. One group of four found the goats cheese, duck, ricotta and carrot cannelloni and tarte tatin overly sweet, with a dark, almost burnt caramel. One reviewer found the fish too salty and another thought the quince and almond tart more like a cake. The complimentary soft drinks offered after the long wait were appreciated.

“Great expectations after reading the reviews, however we came away a little disappointed. Four of us ate there: starters, two scallops were delicious, one had nice bread and butter, one the goats cheese with honeycomb, this was ok but overly sweet. Mains: three duck were nice, well presented but again a bit sweet. The other dish was ricotta and carrot cannelloni, this was incrediably sweet, cloying and heavy. desert: two Tarte Tatin, one with vanilla ice cream the other with walnut ice cream. The tarte tatin was not like a traditional French tarte tatin. This again was incredibly over sweet, dark almost burn caramel flavour and a very pasty like base. We all came to the conclusion that the chef has a sweet tooth😅. The hot drinks seemed a little overpriced.”

“Service from beginning to end was absolutely amazing. Super attentive staff, great people skills and just all round great service. The drinks i had (boulevardier and 'popcorn' old fashioned) we're some of the best cocktails I've had in a restaurant. Really well made and super unique on the old fashioned. The food was superb. I had the Duck dish and it was lovely. Really well balanced with the sharp sauce and the rich duck and potatoes. If i HAD to critique anything on it, it could have been seared a bit harder but it was super nice and blush in the middle. Overall, one of the better meals I've had in a restaurant this year! Will be back to try the rest!”

“We had a superb birthday meal here. Staff were so lovely and attentive. We ordered cocktails that weren’t even on the menu and they were absolutely fantastic. The menu was so interesting and had so many items we were tempted to try. Lamb cutlet with pistachio was indescribable.”

“Went in for the lunch special but ended up ordering from the main menu. Everything was exceptional and the service was amazing. I had the langoustine bisque, some oysters and the roast chicken. I think that chicken dish might be the best roast chicken I've ever had, no exaggeration. Beautifully prepared and even more beautifully presented. I had 3 wonderful cocktails, including the popcorn old fashioned for "dessert". I haven't been able to stop thinking about that drink since. I may have to make a return visit just for that! It was a lovely lunch.”

“Such a wonderful little restaurant tucked away on Ship Street. Recently booked for a dear friends' birthday treat and the staff were so friendly and attentive. Pictured is their asparagus and pea risotto which was such a generous portion, and delicious!”
