About Comptoir Libanais Oxford
Comptoir Libanais Oxford is a Lebanese restaurant at 227 The Westgate in Oxford, serving Lebanese-style food alongside North African and Middle Eastern dishes. The menu includes meze plates built around hummus and baba ganoush, and a chicken shawarma bowl served with rice. The drinks list carries a pomegranate and hibiscus elixir and rose and mint tea, so a visit can centre on something other than the main plates. These come in a decorated interior with colourful touches and oriental lounge music playing. The kitchen also prepares falafel. The restaurant is large enough to seat bigger groups.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the chicken shawarma bowl, a house-special chicken rice bowl that one reviewer called different and flavorful, with the shawarma-style chicken and rice also praised as well cooked and spiced. Close behind are the mezze: hummus, baba ghanoush, labneh, the mixed mezze and a halloumi steak starter. Reviewers also name lamb kofta, falafel, lentil soup, a pomegranate and hibiscus elixir, rose and mint tea, Lebanese coffee with halva and pistachios, and orange blossom mouhalabia for dessert. The kids' menu gets praise, and several describe friendly staff, a decorated room and a setup that suits larger groups. The complaints are mixed. One reviewer found the food not authentic compared with other branches, another said the roasted salmon had too much creamy dressing and the shawarma bowl could use more protein, and one was unhappy that dishes were cleared while diners were still eating and that a 12.5% service charge appeared on the bill without notice. One happier visit ended with staff and the head chef swapping a wrongly ordered meal without fuss.

“This lovely restaurant serves delicious food and is perfect for a lunch with friends and family. They have a kid’s menu which is incredibly tasty and my child absolutely loved it. The staff is friendly and attentive. When I mistakenly ordered the wrong meal for my husband the staff and head chef quickly changed it for him without any fuss. Lavisha and another waitress were particularly polite and friendly. It was our second visit and we’ll definitely be back. I highly recommend it to everyone.”

“The food was nice. The service not so good, as they wanted to collect our dishes when we were still eating. Not so relaxed. But Comptoir put in a service charge of 12,5%, without notifying us in advance! The price on the menu is not your final price! If you still going to eat at Comptoir and customers accept this unfair treatment other restaurants may follow and your prices go up 12,5%. The American way, but at least over there you know it in advance. When I did not look at the charge on the Bill I added a normal personal tip so I paid 20% extra….still they did not say anything. In response to your feedback; thanks for the reply. By optional you should not add it to your Bill. Customers may not notice it or feel embarresed to ask it to be removed. They are there to relax and do not want trouble. That is why Comptoir is doing this, make money by this in our opinion illegal method. Never will we visit Comptoir again.”

“Had an incredible meal at Comptoir Libanais yesterday!had the chance to sample a huge variety of items across the menu, and the food was outstanding. The chicken shawarma bowl, falafel, and lentil soup were the absolute highlights—flavorful, fresh, and perfectly prepared. Beyond the food, the vibrant energy and fantastic vibes made the experience top-tier. A special shoutout to Caren (with a C!) who served us—she is an absolute legend! Her banter, warm energy, and attentive service made our visit unforgettable. We will definitely be back soon, both for the incredible food and to say hi to Caren! Highly recommend!”

“My wife and I ordered the meze platter for one, baba ghanoush, lamb kofta, a pomegranate and hibiscus elixir, and orange blossom mouhalabia for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious. We especially loved the meze dishes. The atmosphere and ambience were wonderful, and the overall dining experience was excellent. We would happily return and highly recommend this restaurant.”

“We very much enjoyed the food which includes North African and middle eastern dishes. The “building blocks” including hummus, taboola, baba ganush, labneh were fine. The shawarma-style chicken with rice was well cooked and spiced. The rose and mint tea and the special Lebanese coffee with Halva and pistachios were great. Service is very good and a special thanks to Lavisha. There’s also nice ambience and decoration; with oriental lounge music in the background.”
