About The Alice
The Alice is a modern British restaurant inside the Randolph Hotel in Oxford, with an Alice in Wonderland themed dining room that gives guests a themed setting for afternoon tea. Afternoon tea comes as tiered sets of sandwiches, scones and sweets, with a choice of teas. The scones arrive with butter and jam, mushroom tarts feature among the savouries, and carrot cake is one of the sweets. Vegetarian and vegan options are available for the tea, so mixed dietary needs can share a table. At lunch, the kitchen serves a set menu of British cooking. The seating includes a Drawing Room.

Customer Review Summary
Afternoon tea in the Alice in Wonderland setting is what most reviewers come for, with the Wonderland-themed sweets and warm scones with butter and jam singled out most. Tea sandwiches such as smoked salmon and creme fraiche, curried egg and rocket, and mini mushroom tarts get specific praise, and close behind are the carrot cake, Battenberg and cherry bakewell tart. Reviewers also mention a well-brewed masala chai, a favourite Red Velvet tea, and a vegan afternoon tea that went down well. Outside tea, a Sunday roast, a Christmas set menu, and a breakfast buffet with potato patties, whipped avocado and cream cheese earn praise. Diners describe servers who were prompt and attentive, with one bringing out a birthday cake and another adding a few extra bites. The one complaint is cigarette smoke drifting in at the window tables, which one reviewer says was overpowering at times. Several mention the setting as beautiful and whimsical.

“I was looking for a vegan afternoon tea after wondering around Oxford with my best friend, and Alice was the perfect choice! Just like the beautiful interiors, the food and service were incredible. Cameron and the manager looked after us so warmly, which made our first English afternoon experience feel even more special! Thank you so much! :)”

“Really lovely place. Very cosy and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed two different teas, my favorite was Red Velvet. We also ordered fruity scones which were the most delicious scones I tasted. Will come back. Greetings from Germany 🫶”

“The best hotel buffet breakfast I’ve ever had…and I’ve travelled to 173 Countries, Colonies and Territories. Sadly, my photos don’t do it justice. The bowls of airy cream cheese (is this what you call clotted cream, here?) and whipped avocado were a real treat for this vegetarian. I topped the perfect potato patties with a dollop of each. I also dined the night before, and will again before I depart. My set menu of pea & mint soup and a garden risotto of fava and asparagus topped with crisps and Parmesan was light and lovely.”

“Lovely afternoon tea for a birthday celebration. Attentive and helpful staff, we felt very looked after. Special shout out to our server Alpha, who couldn't have done any more for us, even bring out a special "happy birthday" cake for the birthday girl. Only 1 tip for customers, if you don't like the smell of cigarette smoke, don't sit next to the windows! The smell was a little overpowering ar times during our visit!”

“The cutest little Alice in Wonderland themed cafe, stop by for afternoon tea to catch up with an old friend and had a wonderful experience! Our server Sophie, was knowledgeable and quick with all the tea and cookies, and even gave us a few extra bites. Such a wonderful presentation and proper tea experience close to Oxford!”
