About Saints Cafe

Saints Cafe is a cafe in Oldham, set in a cobbled courtyard just off the main road at 12 St Mary's Gate. Inside, a low-ceilinged ground floor holds the first tables, and more tables sit upstairs on a second floor. The breakfast menu includes eggs Benedict on an oven bottom muffin, a bacon and cheese bagel and a Mega breakfast. Cakes, including chocolate cake and carrot cake, share the counter offer with an Oreo cookie milkshake, though the milkshake is a separate drink. The team takes orders at the table, and tables can be booked, with a reservation sign placed on the booked table. Dogs are welcome. Regular drink buyers can collect stamps on a stamp card.

Customer Review Summary

The bacon and cheese bagel is the dish reviewers name most, with one praising the thick-cut bacon and another calling it spot on, alongside a side salad and coleslaw described as lush. Close behind are the Eggs Benedict on an oven bottom muffin and the mega breakfast, though one reviewer finds the Hollandaise on the sweeter side. Others mention a garlic chicken sandwich, an Oreo cookie milkshake, and a cake selection that includes chocolate and carrot cake. Several describe friendly, helpful staff, a wooden interior and extra tables outside across the cobbles. Slow and unreliable service is the recurring complaint. One diner waited for toasties that were never put through, got no explanation or sincere apology, and left hungry after the car park time ran out. A regular says soup was declared unavailable after a long wait, and that twice an item had run out or had to be fetched after waiting. Another waited for a bacon butty to go while only two tables were occupied.

“Visited this lovely place while enjoying a walk around Uppermill with my daughter. Tucked away in a lovely cobbled courtyard we spotted the small outdoor dining area. Upon entering we were greeted by very friendly staff in a small but pleasant bar / counter area. The low ceilinged ground floor dining space was full as we got there (it was Saturday so pretty busy) we headed upstairs and found a good selection of tables available. We ordered a "garlic chicken sandwich" and a "bacon and cheese bagel" which were both cooked fresh and served in good time. The food was very nice with excellent ingredients (the bacon was really thick cut and must have been from a proper butchers), both sandwiches were well presented and came with side salads and tortilla chips. Portion sizes were excellent and we were stuffed afterwards. This set us up for the rest of the day. The service, staff friendliness and ambience were all excellent. Highly recommended ⭐”

“So very disappointed with our visit to this cafe today. The waitress took our order at the table, two toasties one being gluten free and two coffees, the coffees arrived swiftly, but 45 mins later we were still waiting for our food order. When we asked how much longer it would be the waitress said she would check . It then became apparent that the waitress hadn’t put the order through for our food. The waitress didn’t explain or apologise and it was the waiter that then advised us it hadn’t been ordered so said he would take our order again, which we had to refuse as we couldn’t stay any longer due to the car park expiring. Whilst I appreciate mistakes happen, it wasn’t particularly busy and at no point did either staff check if we wanted anything else or seem to realise that we were waiting for our food order. To add to our frustration, whilst waiting for our food I noticed that both the waitress and waiter were intermittently hanging around and sitting behind the counter looking at their phones. Neither the waiter or waitress gave any possible explanation as to why our food hadn’t been ordered and although they said sorry the apology wasn’t sincere and the waitress just seemed dismissive of the fact that she had made a mistake and we had been waiting for as long as we had. The only reason I have given 1 star is because they didn’t charge us for the coffee’s… although we left hungry and frustrated with the time wasted 😠”

“This was our regular cafe where one of my clients loved to go weekly where possible. There have been changes to staffing and we've been patient and understanding but after five times in a row if something either not being available on the menu I think we'll have to go elsewhere. I actually asked the member of staff to ensure what I was ordering was actually available and yet after twenty minutes of waiting which isn't a problem in itself a we don't expect instant food, I was told the soup wasn't available. Unfortunately I didn't trust that food would come if I ordered something else as twice we've waited over 45 minutes only to be told one of the items was no longer available or they had to go out to get an item. It's really sad that service has declined as it's a lovely little place”

“Waited 25 minutes for an oinkin bacon butty to go. Understandable if it was busy, but a table of 2 didn’t quite justify it.”

“Visited Saints on Christmas Eve day and as usual could not fault it.Their Christmas menu was very good and their prices are brilliant. In one place in Uppermill Mulled wine was £14.40 for two and not that brilliant, Saints £8 for two and I have put pictures of Saints menu which I was told it runs into New Year . Well done Saints not ripping people off like so many others.”
