Quick info
About The Roast Garden Cafe
Tucked into the Newbank Garden Centre in Oldham, The Roast Garden Cafe gives shoppers somewhere to sit down before or after browsing the plants and garden supplies. The menu runs from a full breakfast through sandwiches and hot meals, alongside hot and cold drinks, so a table works equally for a sit-down lunch or just a snack and a coffee. Cakes are sold by the slice, with carrot cake and Victoria sponge among them. Orders are taken at the table and the team brings food and drinks over. No booking is needed, as the café works on a walk-in basis, and it opens daily during the daytime. A step-free entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without stairs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. Being a small room, it seats a modest number of people at a time.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly, helpful staff, with one describing a server who carried everything to the table of an older customer who struggles on her feet, and another saying the team lets their mum, who has dementia, enjoy a children's meal of chicken nuggets, fries and beans. Food draws close behind, described as fresh, tasty and nicely prepared, with the club sandwich, carrot cake and Victoria sponge named. Several treat it as a spot for a snack or lunch around browsing the garden centre. Price is the recurring complaint. One longtime customer left after seeing a slice of cake at £4.95, calling it overpriced, and another found a creamy mushrooms on toast dish, with two sliced mushrooms, some sauce and one piece of toast, expensive for what arrived. That same reviewer's order came out wrong, and the staff apologised repeatedly for the error.

“Thank you once again for a lovely visit. Steve is always such a friendly member of staff and the young girls are always friendly and accommodating to our wishes. Our mum has dementia and does not often have a big appetite but the staff always let her enjoy her children’s meal of chicken nuggets, fries and beans. The drinks were piping hot and nothing is too much trouble for the staff, especially Steve who always chats with us and makes us almost feel like one of the Roast Cafe family. See you again soon”

“Love this cafe ❤️ The cakes are amazing especially the Victoria sponge. Went for lunch and had a nice time browsing the garden centre and a spot of lunch afterwards. Staff were friendly and attentive and I felt very welcome.”
